Rift worth it?

you just missed the free weekend 8th till 11th

i had a bash and tbh it rips WoW off so badly lol

seriously its like a carbon copy of it from the way the quests are to the UI and font used

not like its a bad thing tho as it seems pretty good but then again i only played to lvl 6 so dont know if it starts to differ from WoW later on

id say if you like WoW then you should like

I expect they will do another free weekend thing, best thing to do is wait for that so that you can try it. I think its worth it, others wont, only way to be sure for yourself is to try it.

It is essentially an updated version of WoW with more dynamic environments and arguably more customisable classes. It's not bad at all, but then again I've only just reached Sanctum at level 17 and don't feel I've given it a proper shot yet, level is pretty fast but you can switch between roles so easily which is rather nice. I play a Cleric (Cabalist/Sentinel/inquisitor) but have entirely different spec for when I'm grouped as opposed to solo, one button and it switches between them in a few seconds.

Doubt anyone reviewing it before at least getting 2 characters to level 20 is giving it any proper play time, which sadly is the case for many of the user reviews I've seen recently. I'm reviewing it for a games site and won't be rushing out a review until I've got at least once character to 40+, preferably 50. By that time my editor will probably have a review from someone else anyway :)

You've only played the tutorial area then basically. The Rifts are what set the game apart I think, and those come after the tutorial areas.

This.

Yes RIFT is like WoW, which is the best thing about it.

Rift's are great fun and a nice differentiating factor from WoW.

Awesome game.

It's a great mmo, I’m really enjoying it. As Tombstone said above, the best way is for you to try it out yourself.

My only gripe is that I rolled on a pvp server, it’s a nightmare!:(

I've put in around 40+ hours so far, have a Level 25 character (I'm in no rush to level but have been questing regularly, taking breaks to craft and just explore). Excellent game, breath of fresh air into the industry. Far too many people comparing it to WoW. When you get a new girlfriend, you don't go round telling people she's exactly the same as your ex, you talk about the new and exciting things about her, and Rift has a lot to talk about.

Fantastic MMO in my eyes. Seems to have taken the best bits from the rest, WOW, LOTRO, WAR and put it in a nice, neat package. I'm currently enjoying levelling up in Rift, whereas I sometimes found it a chore in others. The rifts, pvp battles, guild quests etc all make it that more interesting. You definitely need to play beyond level 10 to get a good feel for the game, i.e. when you can actually fight in a rift and take on invasions.

Rift is brilliant, so much so that I've tried to login and play Lotro my main MMo and I can't as it feels so dull :(

Never played that other game so can't compare it but it's like Warhammer Online on acid !! great fun..

rifts are awersome but if there isnt any 1 else to help then its pointless content :D

I've seen myself take on a few on my trips through silverwood. Fair enough I was a 'few' levels above the rift, wouldn't do it again though :p

having never played WoW I can't really comment however everyone says it's the same so it depends on whether you believe them or not. i have a 39 rogue, 21 warrior and 18 mage. some things to note:
- try to participate in rifts and invasions, they are one of the game's usps. i believe they spawn around level 7, though you'll need to be mid teens to really get involved in Silverwood
- if you don't like your chosen souls you can respec really easily and swap whenever at a small gold cost
- you can obtain cash really easily
- you can level really quickly
- the quests are dull but offer them in nice hubs, so you can pick up 5 in the same place and pretty much get everything to complete the quests in one place without having to charge round the whole map. this wasn't always the case in lotro
- i've not really paid any attention to the story so couldn't tell you if it's any good
- pvp exists everywhere even on pve servers (even outside of warfronts)
- the dungeons i've been in so far have been quite impressive
- it looks quite nice and runs pretty well
- mobs can sometimes be too tightly packed meaning it can be a nightmare in some zones to move through

that's about it really, it's a solid diversion with enough interesting points to keep me playing at the moment.
