Rig Freezeing up

With Vista (spits!) try and turn OFF the pointless Windows Aero in the settings. Then reboot.

The Aero is pointless and extremely demanding on any system. Give that a go and see if it helps increase performance. I will be stunned if it doesnt.

Hey thanks for the info , seems to work well i do see an increase in performance :)

The Aero caused BIGGGG issues for me,
BSOD, No loading OS, Artifacting like hell and just random GPU based problems.

Knocked that off, and BAM, the dirt is gone.

i know this sounds expensive, but its time to upgrade , u need a new mobo with a new cpu, nvidia chipsets with Amd cpu arent the best,i had one and had loads of problems, since changing to a 770 i hav had no freeze ups or stuttering, gaming is just fantastic

dont listen to this. Your setup is fine, its just running too hot. I doubt you need a new case either, just a decent cooler, like the freezer 7 pro (cheap and awesome, you wont get better until you go into the range of the TRUE's and stuff).

A machine I built for a customer had a soprano case with a q6600, 4gb ram and a 8600gt (not a gaming rig) with a freezer 7 pro on the cpu. The quad runs at normal temps, with the door closed.

Edit: it also comes with MX-2 pre applied so you dont have to buy thermal paste for it.

his set up up is not up 2 it, i wouldnt waste my time messing around, if he games for up 2, 8 hours i suggest overheating would hav happened long before that, just spend £180,upgrade to am3,job done!

maybe he doesnt have the money? maybe he doesnt want to? If he jsut replaces parts and its overheating, its not going to get any better? Ok maybe it will depending on the parts etc but meh.

I've had PC's run fine for days, and then BSOD, ive had them game 100% fine but would crash while browsing etc. My laptop, will randomly overheat, run for a few months with no issue then itll overheat and freeze. Hell, the latest PC ive tried fixing has been to me 3 times so far, and every time, there is not a single issue. He takes it home, plugs it in and it BSOD's (tried in different power etc to no avail) lol.

Have you tried running memtest? since memory has caused issues like that for me before, although it looked like an IRQ issue for ages. Tried running it with the side off and a fan blowing in?
