Going on a Stag tomorrow. Reading reviews it sounds like the last place one should choose for a stag.

Any good (safe) bars or restaurants to visit? As a stag group or smaller groups?

Yes, Went for work purposes once for the CCGT Powerstation. I found the place to be quite nice for us but don't know how well they would take to stag groups as it is latvia :')

Stopped in raddison overlooking the bridge :)

I have spent time there a few years back when I was doing the Euro cities.

The good:
Riga itself is a superb looking place.
The women, be it indeginous Latvian or the Russian Latvian are approachable and hot.

Some cool bars and clubs.mainly 2-3 places that were any good.

The bad:
The men like to get stupid drunk and fight...a lot!
No joke, any excuse, they get hammered and fight.
I saw numerous fights throughput my stay there. Not even weekend type drunk fighting, talking mid week.

There are the typical rip off drinks type bars, so research before hand.

They, do not like foreigners, keep a real look out for any of your party if they are of colour. They are targeted.

Don't be rude, especially drunk and obnoxious it will lead to a fight.( I mean it, these people like to fight).
I saw numerous fights break out far too regularly in bars and clubs for it not to be an issue.

Like Paris, Prague etc...use your common sense and you'll have a good time.

They like to fight I gathered that much on my stay but I assumed it to be normal. I see enough of it when abroad in bars so didn't mind it.

I liked Riga, pretty little town and friendly people mostly.

They hate stag parties with a passion lol

I have also been there on a Stag do and enjoyed it in general. There are certain bars you should avoid and do not under any circumstance allow yourself to be chatted up by some local girls who will want to take you to a locals bar.

Two of my group did, got spiked with rohypnol or something and woke up in the street with empty wallets and empty bank accounts. One of them has vague recollections of the bar bill coming which was huge and just handing over his card at which point they just emptied his account.

The Police are also known to be part of this scam and also turn a blind eye to muggings of foreigners.

use your common sense, I went over there on a Stag do, met a local girl and went back a few times to visit her... chatting up the locals is fine, going with them to clubs/bars is fine... in fact it worked out cheaper as we paid local prices for entry and drinks as the girls ordered.

On the other hand if a couple of obvious looking hooker types approach and are desperately keen to take you to a particular bar... just use your common sense - do you usually get chatted up by girls or do you usually approach them... do you order drinks at a bar and hand over cash or do you let them not tell you the price, run up a tab etc... obvious clip joints are obvious anywhere in eastern Europe... I didn't encounter any in Latvia but they're common enough elsewhere that it doesn't surprise me.

Only other tips - the Latvians don't like Russians... don't bother chatting up girls in the Sky Bar at the main hotel, they're all basically hookers. Chatting up local girls in the British pub in the main square is a good call - they're obviously not averse to tourists or they wouldn't be thee and the drinks are reasonably priced (albeit not the cheapest).

If you want to find Russian girls, Estonians etc... go to studio 69 at the big casino place - its part of a larger club but don't go to the main club.. go through the casino and to the studio 69 entrance - you can get a wrist band that lets you access the whole club from ther - when they see that you're Brits they'll suggest their strip club... avoid... ask for a table/bottle service - pick one on the dance floor... enjoy... the girls in there are super hot, it's basically the VIP bit of a fairly large club, you get a hostess who brings you drinks up to the value of your table minimum and they're refreshingly honest/won't rip you off... plus the girls there are basically wealthy locals + Russians - they're not as easy as the girls you'll find in the British pub in the main square but they're not unfriendly either - met a ridiculously stunning Russian in that club. Table + bottle service right next to the dance floor is ideal... cost, in a group, isn't going to be any more than you'll all be spending anyway at the various venues stag do groups end up at anyway and it's much less faffing about.

Just try your best to avoid coming home in a box. Stay with the less mental group :p

Well, being one of the oldest and best travelled you'd expect me to be OK...however I do like to get obliterated. Might have to knock that on the head this time after being robbed in Dublin in April.

As you well know, the stag has a habit of getting into trouble on occasion. I wonder how his pals from Essex will get on?!?!?!?!

I went on a stag do to Riga and was really good fun, even though it was freezing and had tons of snow. One bar (i forget the name) had beer taps at your own table and you basically helped your self to beer and then payed at the end.

We had a bar tour with a girl who had good knowledge of the area and which bars/clubs to avoid. As long as you stay in a large group and don't cause a fuss then you will be fine.

It's a lot like dayz to be honest! Not the best place for a stag do.
But make sure you go to the sky bar and fire an ak 47.

There's a stag thing where they kidnap the tag off the street and take him into the woods. I would **** if that happened to me even if I knew it was setup.
