ive had two threads in the past but ive had to drop the idea from time to time because money in money out scenario now I have the money, and with a new weekly deal from ocuk Im putting it to you the forum, I need a good spec pc for photo shopping and gaming

I was thinking this

but with a £30 tweak of anywhere so please suggest !!!!

i might be getting a totally different case anyways so that might be another £50 but thats due to dipping into the savings etc the other case Im thinking of is

oh and Ive already got an xfi sound card

so please suggest :D

I'm going with Ben M on this one, definitely get a better PSU, plus one with a higher rated wattage, I'd go with 500W minimum. As above, corsair get a good name, be quiet, zalman, coolermaster..etc All are more expensive than the OCZ ones but offer a better PSU.

I went for it as it was modular, easier cable management I guess any suggestions for sorting all the extra cables out because in the past for my mates ive just budled them next to the psu, and it blocks air intake abit

so Ive got roughly and extra tenner to spend, better hdd, gcard or ram ? ??

The ram is cheaper and faster.

You won't get much better for your money than the 4870.

You can't really get a better hard drive (not for the money you have to spend, the next step up would be solid state), maybe get a bigger one if you need the space.

Go for the coolermaster PSU, still modular, enough power for the system and still a reasonable price.

Have you thought about i7? If I were to build a system now, then I would probably spend the extra and go for it, it'll be more 'future proof'.

Yeah, I'm exercising extreme patience at the moment, could have spent £600 this month and got a Phenom II X3 720 based system with a HD4850 but decided to wait a month or two and build an i7 720 based system with a better graphics card (I expect the price of the 4870 to drop in the coming weeks/months purely due to the arrival of the 4890 at a very competitive price). Way I look at it is if I'm going to live with this system for the next 3 years I might as well wait a month or two and get it right than build something now and always wish I'd waited.

I would also consider a better case (yeh, yeh I know everyone wants you to spend more). But better airflow in a case leads to long term system stability (especially over the Summer!!) and longevity for a system.

The Antec 900 (v2) is one of the best:

The 900 was the only case to pass a 50C intake extreme test by Custom PC (UK) - testing done in a reproducible/controlled environment of course. All the other cases started to fry system components and the OS crashed.

I would ditto recommendations for a Corsair PSU. The HX series are modular. The Dark Power series is also very nice (and very efficient) + modular. My flatmate got one of these and it's sweet:
