Right click on desktop stopped working?

For some reason, in X64, the desktop is no longer functional. I can no longer right click on it, shortcuts aren't shown, and if I try to drag something there, I get a "Not allowed to do this" cursor appearing.

Anyone got any ideas?

Are you Logged in as an Administrator or just a separate account.
Sounds like the Administrator has set the Desktop not to work.
I know at my old School, the Admin had not allowed the right click aswell as dropping stuff onto the Desktop.

Genious! Whilst fiddling around trying to get rid of the recycle bin, I set the "disable desktop" policy to "enable" on the group policy. I've disabled it, hopefully should work now
