Have the following:

Q6600 @3440Mhz (430FSBx8), Gigabyte X48-DS5, ASUS Silent Knight HSF, 8GB 6400C5 OCZ DDR2 860MHz@5-5-5-15, ATi Tri-Fire 6990+6970@920MHz/6000Mhz, Crucial M4 128GB SSD, 2x1TB Samsung F1 RAID0, Eyefinity 3x24"Benq 5760x1080p, Windows 7 Ultimate, Antec 1200 Case, 1300W PSU

However, now want an i7... 32GB of ram and the ability to run Trifire and overclock to around 4.6ghz...

So, what processor/mobo/cooler/ram etc will let me achieve this? Am I looking at X79 boards now am I? Really out the loop for a long time obviously so... need some help here guys... obviously looked over the site, but slightly confuised now and really haven't got the time to read up and catch up on the latest tech, so want all the latest stuff, cost isn't important... just wanna get the best stuff really now... sick of this rig... so need the correct ram (nice looking lol with good overclockign potential)... and good cooler... not got the time to water cool!

Gaming and the missus doing a lot of photo work, hence the ram...

Photowork? Rendering and the like? Is that why you need the extra threads of the i7? Tbh your better off asking in each individual sub forum than general hardware to avoid generic answers that don't apply to your needs (a bit like this one)

somethinhg like this would do you fine

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £269.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £108.98
2 x GeIL EVO Leggera 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL316GB1600C9DC) £71.99 (£143.98)

One thing to note is that if for some reason you find 32Gb is not enough you would need to go to a socket 2011 board and CPU as all the ivybridge CPU's will only address 32Gb.

Yes the different versions of windows can address different amounts of memory, but the actual sandybridge and ivybridge inbuilt memory controllers can only address 32GB, you need a socket 2011 CPU for 64GB or socket 1366 for 24GB

socket 1156 max 16GB
socket 1366 max 24GB
socket 1155 max 32GB
socket 2011 max 64GB

Windows 7 Ultimate 192 GB
Windows 7 Enterprise 192 GB
Windows 7 Professional 192 GB
Windows 7 Home Premium 16 GB
Windows 7 Home Basic 8 GB
Windows 7 Starter 2 GB
