Right, I defo want a mac now. I want to buy one in 8 weeks, but have some questions..

I don't think you can install Vista using Bootcamp, due to Microsofts licensing on virtual software prohibiting installing Vista on anything other then an originally Vista-licensed PC.

But you are installing on a hardware platform that you bought the Vista Retail for - OEM licencing yes (locked to PC), but the Retail is different.

There's no VM running with bootcamp - just a loader at the start. Even the HD is a real partition unlike parallels/vmware with a file.

Also that would forbid any windows based VMs running windows VM instances too.

Right, well my vista home premium, xp pro, and xp mce are all locked to this computer in terms of licencing.

I have a vista buisness 32bit and 64bit (2 seperate licences) that have not been used up yet via MSDNAA. I can also get ahold of XP pro and XP Pro 64bit edition licences if needs be.

Will one of these work for boot camp, legally?

Also, VMware fusion, I don't need a windows licence to use that? Or do i?

Cheers

ok. Well i'll install vista 64bit via boot camp and VMware will use that install for the virtual machine apparently? So good to go.

What do you mac users do for USB ports?

I want to connect my keyboard, laser printer, iphone 3g dock (when it's out), external blu-ray drive and external HD.

Youve got 3 on the back, and 2 in the keyboard.

Or buy a small USB Dock.

Will having a USB dock affect the bandwidth? The blu-ray drive is going to be hungry, although I can sacrifice speed when it comes to the printer and keyboard...

Looking at what you need, the drive isnt always in? keep the keyboard ones free etc. And it shouldnt do, just dont have like 10 obviously!

Thanks matey.

2 whole weeks till it's delivered. Expected delivery date is the iPhone release day too. ha.:p

For my MacBook Pro:
Keyboard - bluetooth wireless
Mouse - USB port
External 1TB drive - Firewire 800
External 2nd monitor - HDMI
MIDI via Firewire 400 though an external MIDI audio interface when needed.

You can easily plug a USB2.0 hub in.

I would think of using firewire for the blueray if possible otherwise the USB is going to get pounded hard. Not sure if the iMac does eSATA.

Do you know of any caddys that have a sata internal interface and firewire for a 5.25" blu-ray drive?
I've found plenty for usb, but none firewire so far. :(
