What CPU do i get

Mobo and mem are easy (well i say easy, mem i want is shown as preorder - ocz 1gb extreme).

Ive got thoughts of going for a 4000 x2 or maybe higher, but ive read that new 65nm processors are coming out around same time as conroe, should i just get a top sempron 3600+ or bottom a64 just to fill a gap or just get a decent x2 now as it will be more saleable i spose when it does come around??

Please help im struggling here!!

Funny, i think ill go for 4000+ x2 seen as oc'ing is going to a lot more interesting than any other variant. And its not a load of doe to be fair!

I just dont want to spend out on a proccessor now and couple months down the line be yesterdays news, if you know what i mean!

Only 1gb of mem, would definitely go for 2gb if you can afford it. Any reason why you are upgrading to AM2 atm, your rig in sig looks nice? I dont think you will notice massive performance gains.

agree 100%. Sounds like changing (won't even call it a upgrade) just for the sake of it. Spend the money on another hobby IMO.

Well your prob right in all honesty, but surley my spec would be a lot better with an x2 cpu, so why not take the the opertunity to get in to am2?

P.S only other hobby i def cant afford, scooby is one expensive mother to upgrade lol

Take up a new hobby? ie

ISBN: 1871921007 :D

I wouldn't upgrade if I had your spec, just throwing money away. Put the cash away until you DO need a new PC.

So what were saying is, if im gonna upgrade get a skt 939 x2 cpu coz not being funny but have been getting stability issues with 3700 oced and at standard clocks it just dont cut it with oblivion.
Nor my gfx card for that matter, but i really am being picky with the gfx card.

I would wait a few months, reason being AM2 is totally new - wait till theres some benchmarks & reviews on these retail setups, as well as conroe when its available. I know its so tempting to upgrade, I'm not sure how good the 6800 graphics card is but surely it will play any game at medium settings? at least.

No one actually knows how good these AM2 setups really are in games, what bugs their is etc - dont forget the mobos will be shipped with there 1st bios etc - I'm waiting till at least October to maybe January next year before upgrading again.

Last upgrade Ive made was going from an X800XT PE to X1900XT-X & upgrading my ram from 1GB to 2GB - that gave me a very nice performance boost in games.

Oh ill also ge 7900gt or x that should sort me for gfx in the forseeable future :)
Well if your an Nvidia person then I would definitly buy a 7900GTX the OcUK version is at a nice price - cheapest in UK & probally europe.

OcUK GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-038-OK) (£305.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Will last you a good 1 year, I plan on upgrading to a DX10 card around September 2007. :)

Well if 939 is gonna keep us all going for a year and you reckon a 7900gtx will also its gotta be worth it, but thats if 939 is gonna keep going.

Im now thinking of getting into some major oc'ing of 939 x2 chip now.

Didnt get that to be fair, maybe you need to stop watching paint dry, as for working that out in such detail is, well quite sad :p

if you are buying a new CPU and RAM you may aswell get AM2 imo.
Otherwise you are buying RAM and a CPU now and in 6/8 months you will be buying new RAM (DDR2) and CPU and a mobo....

AM2 and some DDR2 will last you a good 2 years. The nForce 5 chipsets are probably gonna be very good from the outset and then Crossfire is meant to support AM2 already and we know that that is a stable platform...

Dont start talking me into am2, these guys have just talked me out of it aaarrrghhh
Well its upto you of course everyones got their own opinions, but I would be gutted if I bought an AM2 setup straight away only to find out Conroe DOES own AM2 which it probally is, but I dont take anything for granted. I'm dying to upgrade like you are but patience is the best policy - new graphics card & some cheap 2GB like the Geil Value.

Longer you wait the cost of DDR2 ram should lower anyway, costs a bomb at the moment for an AM2 setup - high spec.

STOP!!!

Step away from the computer and put the credit / debit card away.
Your sig is more than enough ATM. Soon, when new games come out, you might need to upgrade, although by the time games come out that will show a significant difference in performance, a whole new line of GFX, CPU's and pretty much everything will be available.

Put the money in a sake place (A bank for example, or under your bed, next to the stash would be good). Leave it, I'm not planning to upgrade for quite a while, not until Feb 2007 at least. Then I can get Vista (If its not delayed again) and a whole new rig to run it on, I'll also have tons more cash available to make a better more powerful rig.

Spose your right, but remains ive still sold my mem and cpu anyway so need to replace, i will def be be goin to 7900 of some sort and maybe two.

Not sure what stash your on about, only stash i have is p.. ah that stash lol
