One of the meanings of the word is something you can customize, I.E "rig" it up in this way, that way, etc. Hence people with gaming rigs, musicians with guitar rigs, etc.

Yeah but a guitar rig, all dem doze patch cables, cabinets and stuff all over the place! It looks jury rigged.

Jury rigged is something I'd never want someone to think about my PC, that'd be embarrassing.
