I've been considering getting a ring flash as I'm keen on macro and tired of the shadows I get with my 430ex. I've had a look and canon do the ring flash and the twin light flash and sigma do a ring flash. Does anyone have any experience in differences in quality between them? The sigma ring flash is a fair bit cheaper than the canon one. I have the 60mm canon macro and 150mm sigma marco lenses so naturally the flash would have to be compatible. I know the sigma is but not sure about the canon. Any info on that?

im in the same boat as you but with nikon, all the replys i've had say that the twin light system is much better, a lot more versatile, not sure about the canon but the nikon is wireless so the flashes can be moved any were, you can even hold one in your hand with one on the lens for perfect lighting. My next perchase will be the nikon R1 twin flash.
How about a DIY ring flash?
Loads of examples on the internet for DIY ring flash adapters using household items such as a salad bowl and kitchen foil to more elaborate versions using fibre optics.
You might also want to consider an LED ring light (DIY or purchased) which enables the photographer to see how the subject is lit.

I've been trying to make my own ring flash for a few weeks now. I've been using fiber optic cable but the stuff is so damm fiddly it's proving to be a nightmare.
Plus I'm getting married next weekend so all my time is pretty tied up.
(I might stick a ring flash down on my wedding list!!) - if the Mrs will allow...
I might be inclined to reword that otherwise there might not be a wedding

LOL I've got a D300 on my wedding list - you know I actually think I have her convinced! Isn't that what 'when we can afford it' means?
