Ring OC'ing WHY???

OK.. SO...

i have my 4690K stable at 4.6Ghz @ 1.204v. i can get it stable at 4.8Ghz @ 1.285v
i didn't go higher because i set my volt limit and that was it.

Now i have it stable at 4.6 on nice volts, is there any reason to mess about with other setting like Ring.
What is the performance gain from overclocking Ring

Nice low volts for 4.8Ghz. Day to day you won't notice any difference by clocking the cache. I did it because I can, plus I can run it 1:1 with the cpu overclock. I believe it's a combination of cache clocking and ram tweaking that has kept mine as the top i5 in the cinebench thread.

Unless your benching theres not really much point to oc'ing the cache, but this may help if you wish too, these volts are for benching so knock a bit off for 24/7 usage

Just a tad excessive!! For cache/ring though i'd limit to 1.3v max

so if i say 1.35 absolute max on my cooling i would be ok.

my cpu will boot to windows at [email protected] but will BSOD when i open chrome.
i think 4.8 is the max i will ever get stable on good volts, but i get high 70's when gaming.

That's fine and nothing to worry about. My 4670k needs 1.45v for 4.8Ghz which is why I only run at that speed for benching. Normal day to day usage is 4.4Ghz with 1.280v which shows how good your 4690k is.

i put ring to offset +0.050 and set ring to 4ghz.

there is no difference in any way so will just stop messing now
