Ringer tunes - NOT ring tunes

I phoned somebody up and heard a song being played, while the normal ring-ring was purring away quietly. I wasn't in a queue - I was just waiting for the person to pick up, while this song was playing/ringing.

I've asked O2, and nobody seems to know WTF I'm going on about.

Does anybody at OcUK know?

Just to clarify. It's NOT a ringtone. It's when I phone somebody else. I hear the ringing sound, but quietly. In the foreground is the music, the person (I'm phoning) has chosen to play to people ringing them.

They have the same thing on 3, called dial tunes, you can choose between music, film clip or sound effect. They charge £1.50 a month to use the service and £1.50 per tune.

T-Mobile have had this for about 3 maybe 4 years now, Ive had people hang up because they thought something was wrong with the line !!

I had a business chap come through to me yesterday, because he had a saucy lady on his - even though he didn't ask for it. :eek:

Apparantley they can be default when buying new phones in phone shops, as a way of building up sales packages.
