Rio De Janeiro

Been to Brazil before, and it's absolutely fantastic for the single man! That was in Serra Negra. The Brazilian friend of my parents I was staying with wouldn't let me go to Rio as I had only been married four or five months. I think that speaks volumes.

All of Brazil is very cheap, and the locals are especially friendly to Brits. The ladies just won't leave you alone!

Great city with lots to do. Just be careful out there and don't wander into a favela. The taxi driver we had was driving through one on the way to our hotel from the airport. He has his hand out of the window getting himself a nice taxi driver tan. Some bloke ran over and whacked him on the arm with a bat before trying to wrestle his watch from his arm

The driver put his foot down and managed to get us out of there before seeking hospital treatment. We got a second taxi to our hotel and had a BIG drink.

Sugarloaf and Christ the Redeemer are 'must do's ' as is the Maracana. Ipanema beach is much nicer than Copacabana in my opinion. If you go to the beach make sure you only take the bare essentials as there is a lot of crime on the beaches such as bag snatching. Our hotel was across the road from the beach so we merely crossed the road with our towels and some loose change for drinks etc. Leave the digicam in the hotel when you go to the beach.

It is also worth getting a ferry to one of the islands off Rio as the beaches there are less crowded and totally unspoilt.

Rio is a dodgy city but if you keep your wits about you and use common sense you will have a great time.

Hardly surprising considering the brits will earn at least 10 times more than the average brazilian.

Im wondering, has anyone been to this Brazilian city before, and what do you make of it?

Ive been to Rio a few times and i have to say its a lovely place...goddamn those brazilian chicks on the beach wear next to nothing lol:p.

But other than the chicks there, its not a bad place...although part of it are dirty and pretty rundown but it kinda puts everything into perspective though.

Sao Paulo is another nice place i went to as well, but not as exciting as Rio.

As youstolemy id said earlier, its not the most safest of places but take precautions and be sensible and you will be ok:).

Cant wait to go back there sometime soon though:)

I`ve just spent the last three months there. :D
If you`re thinking of getting out then I hope you make it, just look through the poverty so you can admire the real beauty of the place.

Some pics here and more being uploaded as we type....

I`ll add more later;)
