RIP Aretha Franklin

Pancreatic cancer is a horrible way to go, she certainly didn't deserve that. RIP

Isn't it one of the least survivable cancers you can get? I know my aunt was diagnosed with it recently after she lost weight very suddenly. Thankfully she was caught very, very early but she still had some very invasive surgery to deal with it.

Yup. Something like 20% 1-year survival, 5% 5-year survival. My brother in law died at 50 from it. He'd been losing weight for about 6 months (we commented how he was looking trim at an xmas family do) but, being a bloke, didn't see a doctor (with Pancreatic cancer, it probably wouldn't have helped much anyway, of course). Presented to hospital in severe abdominal pain, was diagnosed and then died about 6 weeks later.

Your aunt is very fortunate if she's recovered. Doesn't happen for many.

I think part of the problem with it is that a lot of the time, the symptoms like stomach ache and diarrhoea resemble simple stomach bugs, and people just ignore them.

Well, she only had the surgery a couple of months ago. It seems to have been a success but I guess it is always going to be an elephant in the room. Commiserations on your BIL :(
