Legend.

Very sad news, the soundtrack of my childhood.
I've possibly dreamt this but I'm sure that "Waiting for a Hero" was the theme song for a TV series in the early eighties, though I can’t recall its name.
The song played during the opening credits. Tragically, the lead actor in the first series lost his life while filming, though I can’t remember if it was in a way similar to Brandon Lee’s accident, so they replaced him with another actor. Never forget, as me and my sister were really sad and always associated the song with this.
Thanks @RetiredGreyFox - a 40 year old memory cleared up. Nice one.AI Overview
The hit song you are thinking of is "Holding Out for a Hero" (often misremembered as "Waiting for a Hero"). It served as the opening theme song for the 1984 CBS action-adventure series Cover Up.
While the most famous version of the song was recorded by Bonnie Tyler for the film Footloose, the TV show used a cover version specifically performed by actress and singer E.G. Daily.
