RIP Eric Bristow

Terrible news. 60 no age. He wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but he was an undoubted master of his craft who was just so entertaining to watch.

Sad loss so relatively young,

I remember finding myself in a late night “lock in” at the Swan in Leek Staffs, unbeknownst to me until he walked in that he owned it at the time, given how he put them away, I’m amazed he lasted this long tbh.

RIP.
 
Finished on 60, just like he did many times in his career. Truly upset at the news, he was one of the best known sportsmen of his time and paved the way for the likes of Phil Taylor.

Peter Wright was in floods of tears during his match tonight :(
 
Only saw him on Pointless last Saturday. Seemed well and happy.
He was, I think the first to suffer from 'dartistis'
 
I wasn't a fan at all, back in his arrogant prime, but it's hard to imagine the game without Bristow. RIP.

I still have and use my John Lowe style darts from that era. Feels life a lifetime ago now... and I guess it is for more than a few players.

Sadly, this is no longer the case, average life expectancy in the UK is falling... Especially for those of ~40 and under.

Poor, often excessively high Calorie diets
Insufficent amounts of regular, quality exercise
Long hours at work, especially for full time contracts
Not enough quality sleep
Increased stress
etc.

RIP Eric, was shocked to read he was only 60, I've never followed darts in a big way but thought he would be 70+ by now after his success in the 1980s.

Bristow’s drinking was always likely to end his life early sadly.

In Stoke Newington in the early 80’s, my mum and Dad used to see him in the pub all the time. He was a permanent presence in there. Nearly every day he’d be in there for at least 6 hours drinking and playing darts. He drank heavy pretty much all his life and was a very heavy smoker for many years. The fact that he’s had a heart attack isn’t honestly the biggest surprise in the world.
 
Sad news Rip. At least he went while still involved with the darts and they were all chanting his name last night at the Echo arena which given his character he would have probably enjoyed 5,000 people chanting his name all night in celebration of his life. Sadly his lifestyle of heavy drinking probably caught up with him people forget he was involved in the darts lifestyle from a teenager he achieved most of his success at a very young age. Another legend of darts gone along with Sid Waddell, Jim Bowen, Jocky Wilson etc
