RIP John McCain

This says far more about you than you probably realise.

Anyway, whilst I disagreed strongly with some of his political stances, he did at least have integrity, manners, and common decency. Those should be givens and unsurprising so I suppose it says a lot about America that these are standout points. There was a piece in The Gruadain the other day claiming that he paved the way for Trumpism by introducing Sarah Palin to the world stage which legitimised the anti-fact, anti-truth carry on that the world is facing now but I'm not sure I buy that entirely.

The Republican Party - and American politics in general - could do with a few more John McCains.

The Republican party could do with a bit of trepanning to take their demons away, we could tell them that it releases them of their closeted homosexuality and brings them closer to Jesus to add a bit of religious incentive.

/I was going to write something far more crude.

Nah, says I don't really care for what happens in the USA. No matter what they do they will still have guns and shoot each other in the face because dumb.

Saying this... I would have preferred him to sir trumpalot

I don't know a great deal about his policies but he always struck me as one of the more honourable people in American politics.

I got the same vibe, which was reinforced when I watched a youtube video when he was on his campaign for president running against Obama. He was talking in one of those big conferences with his supporters and a woman said something about Obama being an Arab and why he shouldn't win, and he took the mic off the woman and corrected her saying that he's a good person, just with differing views on politics.

Sad that he didn't live longer :(

The funeral's been, here are a couple of the tributes for those who may not have seen them.

And finally, a bit of background on the man himself.

The guy standing next to John with the glasses is Salim Idris, that's legit. He was the Supreme Commander of the FSA before he got replaced, he's a moderate. He was a General in the SAA before he turned.

I believe the guy in the background is an commander in the Northern Storm Brigade, they act as "police" force under the "Islamic Front" which is now part of Jaysh al-Islam (Army of Islam). They changed names and merged with so many others it can get confusing, but one of the groups they merged with wanted to create an "Islamic State" too.

You as a westerner, would find himself in deep horse poop if they caught you, they not ISIS bad, but they pretty close and you might end up in a video on some gore site, but they could also let you go after a while (unlikely) but there is a chance.

One of them is a director of some American based Syrian group, calling themselves the "Syrian Emergency Task Force" which helped setup the trip.

The others are commanders in different groups, some are claiming two of the men are Mohamed Nour and Abu Ibrahim, part of a group that kidnapped some people and also chopped some 11 year old kids head off.

The background of the photo and the other few photos that was taken at the same time is that some of the guys asked if they could take a photo with him, he didn't know who they was or what group they was part off, it just happened, so it's possible, these could be some very bad men.

This was in 2013, so these guys could be very well dead by now or likely joined Jaysh al-Islam or even ISIS since they was offering better pay and conditions, anything is possible.

Never the less, they are rebels (terrorists) depending on what you support.

One of the men with McCain is Gen. Salim Idris, who at the time chief of staff of the Free Syrian Army's Supreme Military Council. He was removed from the post in February.

Another is Mouaz Moustafa, executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, a Washington, D.C.-based group that encourages U.S. intervention on behalf of the moderate opposition and organized McCain's visit.

A third man who had been disputed in the past has since been identified "as one of the brigade commanders for the Free Syrian Army," McCain said.

He was with the Northern Storm Brigade, a force affiliated with the Free Syrian Army that has battled ISIS, McCain's office clarified.
