RIP Kenny Rogers

A family member in Texas posted this on social media this morning,

One piece of news which hit me this morning was the death of Kenny Rogers. Back when I was in college, he appeared in El Paso with his group The First Edition. I believe the concert was at Texas Western College/UTEP. In the last 20-30 minutes of the concert, his microphones began to fail, one by one. Thoroughly professional, he and his group seemed to adapt and continue on. When the concert ended, the only working microphone was in Kenny's hand; he had taken it from the drummer to do the last song. To his credit, the concert was not cut short, but after an encore, he asked for everyone's attention. He apologized for the microphone problems and went out of his way to tell everyone the local firm from whom they had rented sound equipment (most of the audience knew of the firm) was NOT to blame for the problems. It was not their fault and they had been beyond expectation with everything they did.

That night, I caught a glimpse into that man's character I'll never forget.

R.I.P.
