RIP Metric System

So all this made-up panic/outrage over "if you want to use Imperial measurements to sell things you can" - Good Job GD, never change :D
Its not panic or outrage it is laughter you hear. I love how brexiters think there is outrage. Its not outrage lol

I thought whingefest threads were kept in SC?
Then you are not reading threads in GD correctly.

Old imperial measurements make no sense. We need a modernised imperial system. I propose calling it 'UK new metricised imperial'.

10 oz = 1lb
10 lb = 1 stone
100 lb = 1 hundredweight (maybe the one thing we can learn fron the USA)
12 hundredweight = 1 Ton (got to have some kind of a non-10 holdover from the old imperial system)

All this does is gives retailers the OPTION of selling things in e.g. Pints etc, it's not compulsory and probably like now most things will still be marked up with both like milk is now

That's a terrible idea, I would go from overweight to obese.

So have you got the weights and rulers etc that are locked away, I saw a documentary on it.
I think France has THE Kg weight.

Yes, we have THE meter and all manner of other items. No one country can actually claim to have "THE" of anything, they've all got all of them for redundancy and accuracy, but they make these claims for promotional purposes. We had an open day a couple of weeks ago and the kids love it, it is genuinely the most interesting place I've ever worked and the scientists are generally all absolutely lovely people, to the point where to have to refrain from asking them questions as they'll take half a day explaining things, it's such a nice change after spending the last 14 years working in the city amongst bankers and whatnot, who were more often than not arrogant pricks.

People complaining, do you have your sat nav set to miles and yards or kilometers and meters?

So you are using the exclusion that already exists as what?
A strawman?
Or a good idea that we should introduce more exclusions and confusion?

How many fluid ounces would you like for your coke at McDonalds, I will reiterate?

I makes no difference to me, I was bought up with both, living in this bat**** country. My country uses metric, apart from the bit in the north which will be changing before too long...
So you use miles and meters then :p

A Brexit deliverable, life changing! How did we ever cope!
And in typical Brexit fashion the "deliverable" was never an issue except to those whipped up on nostalgia, wasn't required by the EU, and could have been solved by the UK government at any time

I always have everything set to metric.
Mostly use GPS when walking or cycling, and in neither case would imperial measurements be useful to me.

Always nice to know how much climbing there is in any trip, so why anyone would want heights in feet, or yards, or fathoms is something I cannot, well, fathom!

As someone who spent 30 yrs with imperial where there was 240 pence to a pound 480 half pence and god knows how many farthings I am horrified at the thought of going back to it
I use feet and inches as a basic sizing then metric for accurate measurements.
Weigh myself in stones and lb's -- I am 5ft 6 nches tall and buy diesel in Ltr's
Drive miles recorded at MPH
Everything in metric is by the 100 -
I have just realised why we are metric - No one after the 70's could add or take away or divide in imperial math - This is why calculators were invented

I work at the institution which deals with measurements. Not an institution, the institution. The people who literally define how things are measured, the final say in this kind of thing. They're not commenting on any of this nonsense.

Are you saying you have standards? ;) As an aside there are some on here who would like to see the abandonment of GMT and a a move to Brussels Standard Time ;)

I agree, I fail to see why the government needed to say anything, it’s not very Tory to interfere like this unless, well, Boris and JRM want a different headline.

It is only a review however, what a waste of money, again.

How do the imperial zealots feel about rebranding to farenhiet?

Very badly, if spelt like that :)

Spelt correctly it's how I operate all the time. If I programme an automotive ECU it'll have logging in Fahrenheit :)

Ah, I see you haven't read the thread then, thanks anyway.

Also Brexit was 6 years ago and we "officially" left the EU in Jan 2020 - virtually 2.5 years ago - you'd imagine after so long that the people using the perceived insult of "brexiters" would have found some way to cope by now but nope, 6 whole years later and apparently they're still going. Some people just can't give-up on hate I suppose.

I dont think brexiter is an insult nor remainer. They are a descriptive political divide like left right. If you think it is an insult please explain why?
