Not trying to be smart. I started driving in 2006 and have never seen petrol sold in anything other than litres. I had no idea gallons were used so recently!

Unleaded was also 43.9p/litre. Not anymore!
Maybe we can switch to pints and it'll be close to 40p again.
Pretty much that, though I guess people can kick off at headlines etc.. all the same.
I mean we use miles per hour for speed, miles per gallon for fuel efficiency, stone and pounds for how much we weigh, feet and inches for height, pints for beer and (sometimes) milk.
It seems like we're already quite capable of and do already use both. Also, when unregulated, just look at the different choices people make for example I understand sellers of an illegal product people smoke use fractions of an ounce.
No one has been taught Imperial measures at school since even when I was there in the very late 70's and early 80's. 40 years ago. What a ridiculous suggestion. Ask anyone under 30 how many feet in a yard or yards in a mile and you'll likely get blank stares.
Fuel was changed to Litres so the government could sneak in 2ppl tax rises. There are 4.54 litres in a UK Gallon. If the Government announced a 8-10p rise in Duty on a gallon of fuel there would have been uproar. But they can now do 2p on a litre without so much as a complaint and a couple of lines on a news website covering the budget.

At work we have a few products where some drawings are primarily in imperial. Majority is in metric though but is annoying dealing with 68ft of cable rather than 21 meters.
Or 0.236" rather than 6mm. Years ago we did had an interesting talk with a customer who's drawing had both imperial and metric with no priority and a tolerance of 0.2 was given, took far too long to explain why that was a big mistake.

Everyone, myself included, uses miles per gallon to measure economy. Makes perfect sense.

This is plainly a Reese mogg diversion tactic, he hailed this as a brexit benefit and with over 63400 yards of a queue at Dover, he's got to produce something they can claim is worthwhile. ******** headlines, they are an absolutely awful bunch in government. Precisely this, half their BS talk is from a point of non comprehension. They can't even trade with the US as they've different measures. Not too many things as sold in miles.Thanks for reminding everyone who was paying attention, that the US pint is not the same as the UK pint!

I too use miles per British gallon for fuel, but I work it out from dividing by 4.54. It isn't that tough, everything else I use is in metric, even weight and height now.

I left school in 2009. And I can distinctly remember doing conversions between metric and imperial.
On the topic I’m pretty indifferent to the whole thing. For most people in their day to day lives the units of measurement are pretty arbitrary. For international collaboration it’s a bit more important. I doubt most engineering firms will pay any attention to this. It’ll purely be used for labelling food.

The level of outrage people are showing to this is quite hilarious.
I couldn’t give a toss either way, nothing will change. Pubs will still serve pints, we‘ll still have mpg, supermarkets will still use Kg and grm, fruit and vef stalls with use pounds and ounces, nothing will change.

I really hate all this Metric and Imperial stuff. When I was in retail as a butcher and fishmonger it was all pounds and ounces. Then one day it changed to Kilograms and grams. Messed me up.
Height to me is Feet and inches
Weight is to me is in Stones and pounds
Buying meat is pounds and ounces although I did work with kg and Grams I can easily convert both

Yes they would, people are against imperial because it's archaic and nonsensical not because it's being proposed by Conservatives.
The **** take about it coming from Boris now is because they were supposed to be moving on from Partygate to tackle the important things the country wants, and as shown by all the defensive replies here the best that can be mustered is indifference or some bizarre comment that's it's the choice of certain drug dealers.
