RIP Nvidia - PC Gaming ?

I think the important item is
So in the future, chances are that if you purchase a PC Game in the Windows Store, you might end up with an emulated XBox One version.

Nothing to worry then as no one in their right mind would buy a game from there. Since when did MS decide something for Windows Store make Steam, EA etc do the same ! Never.

Nothing to see here move on.

State of Decay 2 is massive bug ridden disappointment. I got really bored with it quickly. Amount of times I wacked a Zombie and it stuck in mid air.

If you want some decent SoD gameplay get the first game GOTY edition and a few mods from Nexus Mods and it is 100% lot more fun that SoD2.

In return, MS told Nvidia to FO when it came to the 360 :p
Lol. Greedy as hell. If they carry on a lot of PC gamers will tell them FO also. I know I will. But I think they are not silly enough to price the 3000 series like they did the 2000 series.

MS wanted Nvidia to reduce the price of the graphics in the original Xbox they had contractually agreed to.

Nvidia told them to FO.

As much as I don't fly a flag for NV I have to admit why should NV allow MS to Welsh on a deal?

The idea of MS or Sony falling out with Nvidia is just an unconfirmed myth as is the totally BS counter claim that "Nvidia didn't want consoles anyway". While Nvidia do have a reputation of being ***** to deal with, the bottom line is these companies all look at the bottom line in a purely pragmatic way... profit.

AMD could offer GPU/CPU (or SOC) in one cheaper package that was powerful enough, cheap enough and mature enough to go into the MS and Sony consoles. Nvidia couldn't, so didn't get a look in.

Everything else is consipiracy/petulant wishful thinking.

ye totally agree with u

ehhh, if windows ends up being a glorified xbox shop then we always have linux. My work/school laptop is already running pop os with a few tweaks and im loving it. I won't be surprised if linux gaming gets even more attention now after the recent buzz. Here is some fingers crossed for some proper and well done Vulkan based games in the next few years.

Yeah the problem with that is it's wrong, and your memory of how this 'myth' came about is wrong. Xbox used Nvidia in the original Xbox, MS didn't use a SOC in the Xbox 360, they used power PC cpu and an AMD gpu. It was the 360 they refused to go with Nvidia again after they didn't like how Nvidia behaved on the original Xbox. It had nothing to do with SOC and it wasn't a rumour/myth that started for the Xbox One. Nvidia have tanked multiple partnerships over the years by how they handled such deals.

It was also rumoured literally 5 years before the PS4 came out that Sony were incredibly angry that Nvidia were refusing to pass off any cost savings in production of the GPU in the PS3 to Sony as they expected would happen and that the relationship between the companies was terrible and Sony would be unlikely to use them on the next console. This was years before anyone knew the next consoles would be a SOC, or that a single chip would be a viable option.

Also SOCs are not cheaper, one package is more expensive, one bigger die costs more to produce than two smaller dies (with broadly the same overall transistor count, it 2x 250mm^2 dies will cost a fair amount less than a single 500mm^2 die). SOCs bring other advantages, power savings, some pcb/power component, single heatsink type advantages.
