RIP OFF WARNING

This used to be true for a lot of things, once upon a time.
Nowadays it's often the opposite, where Amazon are the most expensive of all (unless you happen to catch the 20 seconds when something is actually on sale and so priced quite sensibly), and independent retailers in both the UK and often abroad (even with the fees) are able to offer the best prices by a notable margin.
Agreed, you really need to do your research, thankfully we have the internet these days. If you shop smart it can save you a lot of money, I rarely pay more than the most competitive price. I will sometimes pay more for good service or the peace of mind with a high value purchase.

On a related topic. EK are sending me some RGB parts under warranty to fix an issue with my newly purchased FLT reservoir. I’m assuming they’ll send them so that they don’t attract any duty/VAT, but is that the case?

You'll be fine, should be marked as warranty goods.

OP not to pile on you further, but this isn't on EK so the use of overly hyperbolic language doesn't help you get sympathy.

This is Brexit :(
