Sad news that Sid Watkins had passed away.

Was a massive part in driving F1 towards a much safer sport, he will be missed.

If only Ayrton had taken Sid up on his offer to give it all up and go fishing together that Saturday at Imola in 1994 :(

Whatever people say about Bernie, he clearly recognised that Sid was important.

“You know Ayrton, you’ve been 3 times world champion, you’re the fastest man in the world, and you like fishing, so, why don’t you quit, and i’ll quit and we’ll just go fishing.”

One of the biggest safety improvements in F1 was employing him.

*doffs hat*

I'm off to read his book again.

RIP

Are there any places to buy his books digitally? It seems like it would be quite difficult to get a hold of a copy.

Acolades and achievements are usually given to the drivers or the teams but he is truely a legend in the sport. I think it is safe to say 100's of drivers owe their life to him due to the safety work he did.
