RIP Steve Irwin

Such a shame. I hope his family/friends can cope :( He was a nutter though, and with the way he interacted with dangerous animals it was only really a matter of time.

Stingray though? My money would've been on a big croc.

Understatement of the year.
Not really, he was around what are usually very placid animals, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

Bad luck more than anything.

Wow! Only yesterday morning I was watching a programme with him in it about catching crocs.

It did amaze me how he wasn't already dead tbh.
Great bloke though, loved his job and brought his enthusiam over well.
He'll be missed.

R.I.P. fella. :(

Stunning news.. though I must admit I'm surprised he made it this far in life without being killed given the number of animals he's ****** off!

Sounds like extreme bad luck to me, to even be in danger from a stingray seems pretty remote from reading the posts, never mind the fact that it punctured the absolute worst place it could have.

RIP

RIP, dude - a genuinely nice guy, a great, humerous and informative TV presenter and, above all, someone with a genuine passion for life and his role in saving the lives of animals and working very hard towards conservation.

Right now he has God in a headlock, trying to stick his thumb up his but.

Need we say more? :)

It's weird how this is shocking so many of us. I guess it's just that none of us really ever thought it was going to happen.

I do feel for his youngest at the moment though. He'll have to grow up, learning who his daddy is through the television. At least he'll know what a true legend he was.

It's a real shame. :(

Saw him do a Crock show at Australia Zoo a few years back, just after his son was born and he really was larger than life.
He used to drive around the Zoo on a motorbike chatting and joking with people.
It is sadly ironic that something like a Stingray got him and not one of the multitude of deadly creatures he used to interact with.

My thoughts go out to his familly.

Absolutely gutted! I can't believe he died! :(

I'm sure I heard them mention on GMTV that the last death in Australia from a Stingray was in the 1940's... terrible bad luck.
