RIP Steve Irwin

Very sad news and my thoughts go out to his family, the world needs guys like this who make a difference to peoples lives, TV will miss him sorely. Very tragic news, RIP Steve. :(

With it being just gone 7am now in Queensland expect more news from the News wires and TV. I have a few extracts from the local papers downunder that are available online

CROCODILE Hunter Steve Irwin rose in a cloud of blood – the cameras still rolling – before his crew realised he had been fatally speared through the heart by the barb of a stingray.

He was pulled from the water alive, taken to a nearby boat and could clearly be seen in distress.

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie says there has been an outpouring of sympathy for the family and many calls for the State Government to acknowledge Mr Irwin's contribution to tourism and conservation.Mr Beattie says a state funeral is one of several options being considered to recognise Mr Irwin's work, but he will wait to hear the wishes of the conservationist's family before making any decisions.

CROCODILE Hunter Steve Irwin's conservation work would continue despite his death yesterday, a close friend said today. The executive director of Irwin's Australia Zoo at Beerwah, near Queensland's Sunshine Coast, pledged today that Irwin's work to protect wildlife would go on.

Thats horrible:( :(

Genuinely upset about this.

Easy to see from his shows he was a great, caring and genuine guy who loved animals.

The great thing about Irwin is he wouldn't even hold anything against the Stingray and would probably even try to explain in great detail why the creature did what it did.

Thoughts are with his family and friends.

RIP :(

Our whole family are shocked, so it shows how he related to different ages. Our thoughts are with his family, especially as he had such young children.

RIP

Genuinely gutted about this, its very sad news! Although he did seem very crazy he was fantastic to watch and was a very dedicated family man u can see how much he cared about his wife/kids & work.

R.I.P Steve! Thoughts go out to all his family and friends

What can I say that hasn't already been said?

First off, what a terrible way for such a loving man to die :( It was obvious he loved his job, you could see that from his TV Shows. It's just a pity it was all cut short so soon.. because personally I could never get bored of his character; so fun to watch.

..and that's what made him.. his appeal. People knew him as the crazy guy who would do anything to get up close and personal in order to make his documentaries and I really do think there will NEVER be another quite like him.

My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

R.I.P Steve Irwin

Totaly gutted! :( The guy realy did know how to live life to the full!! His energy and enthusiasm was amazing.

R.I.P. Steve Irwin :(

Earlier today, the American TV company that made the Crocodile Hunter a household name in the US – Discovery Networks, which owns the Discovery and Animal Planet channels – announced it will continue Irwin's legacy with the creation of the Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter Fund, nicknamed The Crikey Fund.

It will also aid Irwin's Australia Zoo as well as provide educational support for his two young children.
