Ok, I posted this on another forum, but don't know if it's right or wrong to do so. I couldn't see anything in the FAQ that it would go against and I know there's quite a few bikers here, so it may be beneficial?

If it's against the rules or wrong, or if anyone affected is reading this, then I really am sorry and can mods please delete the thread.

Motorcyclist hospitalised after crash

The scene of the accident

A MAN has been taken to hospital after his motorcycle collided with a van.

The accident took place in Queens Drive at the junction with Rushton Road, just after 3pm.

Wiltshire police spokesman Graham Chivers said: "An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to deal with the motorcyclist.

"The motorcyclist was receiving treatment at the side of the road for his injuries.

"A full road closure has been implemented between Winter Road and Coate Water."

Police said they expected the road to be closed for at least three hours.

This happened recently here in Swindon, on a stretch of road with a 40 limit, and a history of deaths.

The driver of the van visits the place were my old man works, and they were talking today about it, and I had the story relayed to me when I got home this afternoon.

From the image above I had assumed that the bike had hit the off-side rear of the van, but that is not the case, in fact that dent was caused by the chassis twisting and the wheel snapped when the van landed!
Apparently the biker hit the van on the near side, causing the van to pirouette around, so that the van ended up facing the way it had came out of the junction.

The police think that the biker had hit at 152 mph - the digital speedo had frozen at this figure, the driver was telling my dad that when he had moved to the middle of the crossing, the bikes were far away - from the start of that road to the junction in question, I think it's about 700 yards (although I'm carp estimating that sort of thing).
When he started to pull into the road he looked again and the bikes were only a car's length away - the first biker clipped the van leaving a scrape, but didn't come off, and the second biker hit :(

The van driver said that he was sat in the cab dazed looking down at the rider's staring eyes, and saw that most of his visible face at swollen up with blood, but he was completely motionless.
The biker suffered massive internal injury, the right hand side of his ribcage was pushed in and pierced his right lung and kidney, and the left lung and kidney apparently exploded with pressure. Sadly, I think his life support was turned of yesterday. RIP.

The first biker has since been arrested and is being charged with numerous offences, one of which is manslaughter - as the police believe that the second biker was racing to catch up, the van driver has been told he is unlikely to be charged.

152mph!!!! Jesus! That's right at the end of my road so when I got home from work they were investigating and we couldn't exit our road.

But jesus christ 152mph down queens drive?? That's only a few hundred yards from the end and a round about.

Sorry but I can't see where it says that he's died in the article

:edit: got it now.

Nasty, RIP.

I know that road pretty well.

I hope the van driver is not to shook up, My thoughts are with Him & the bikers loved ones & family.
R.I.P. to the Dead Dude as well, We ALL make mistakes & he payed with his life for his, Like i say Rest in Peace.

RIP doesnt help my opinion of bikers im afraid

But car drivers are just as bad  I was almost taken out by one on the way home tonight; he must have disliked me filtering through the stationary traffic so decided to pass me at 80-90 (in a 40) just I was moving into his lane!

When I checked mirrors; really carefully (as they're hard to see in at the best of times), and looked over my shoulder, he was nowhere to be seen, so I signaled, checked again and started to move, then he raced past as I crossed the line into the other lane.

Scort.

The OP said he believed the life support was switched off yesterday - tragedy really and a bloody shame. Still 152 in a residential area...

RIP all the same.

 At the whole thing.

It's a shame people are so silly though, racing bikes around a built up area...still RIP.

InvG

Agreed, apparently they were spotted before-hand popping wheelies in another 40 zone, just sounds like the end result of stupidity :(

Scort.

RIP to the guy, but if the impact was in fact at 152mph in a residential area (which to be honest I'm not sure I believe anyway), then that's a choice, not a mistake.

EDIT - And for those too thick to understand what I'm trying to say, I don't mean he chose to die.

Here's a map of where it happened.

Distance from crash to the roundabout is no more than about 2-300 yards if that.

Yes, it's a bad bit of road for accidents, and the bit they started from was the Coat roundabout, so from there to the right turn into Parks, he got up to 150+.

Scort.

So they were going the other way? I was told by someone that they were coming toward the roundabout

There's been a few accidents there in the past couple of years because of people just not looking/doing stupid speeds.

But christ that means he got up to 150 in only 200 yards.

There are houses all the way down along the road.

The van driver was affected badly, suffering flashbacks every time he hears a bike, not good as he drives for a living, you hardly get to hear from the other side much, hence one of the reasons I posted this.

Scort.

Completely foolish IMO. A shame he died but from the sounds of things, it was a built up area and at 152mph what did he expect to happen?

I ride and I've been riding long enough to know that there are enough idiots out there on the road trying to kill me without me exacerbating the situation.

RIP nonetheless.

Thats what i was thinking so why did they charge the other guy with manslaughter? He made the choice to do that speed.
