I am looking to set up media centre pc and want to rip my blu ray collection to my hard drives. Can someone please let me know how big a blu ray is in disk space for hi quality rips.
There was a thread on this a few weeks ago. Discussing mkvs etc.
As Lunatic said they can go up to 50GB.
Though can be from 4GB. I think most people in the other thread were saying they just use 12GB max files. Let me try and find it... if it hasn't been deleted
CD's don't (in the majority) have copy protection that you have to circumvent in order to copy the contents to another device. DVDs and Blu-Rays do, hence discussion of doing so is against the rules of this board (and also illegal, but then nobody really cares about that).
UK law doesn't, most stuff you read online regarding "format shifting" is related to US law.
Under UK law it is still technically classed as copyright infringement if you are ripping a CD to put on you MP3 player or ripping a DVD to your hard disk ... even if it is for personal use.
Of course how they would know you are doing it if you are not distributing anything ...
