Risks of continuing using Windows 7

about 2 months ago I saw a website that carries on producing updates for end of life windows OS's but I can't find it now.

It was from a tech news article I was reading, basically, they'll carry on releasing security updates regardless. Might be worth a look but other alternatives:

1) move away from autocad completely and look for similar software with similar addons, Sketchup etc
2) Run win 7 in a VM
3) Just disconnect from the network/internet. Use it solely for cad and do backups via USB

From an enterprise security point of view, it is basically a risk decision. On the 15th January 2020 - nothing actually happens to make Windows 7 any less secure than it was on the 14th January. The risk is that at some point in the future (it could be a month or several months) there will be a security flaw that won't be patched. At this point you may need to pull the plug completely depending on how serious the issue is.

We have around 4500 clients and now less than 1% are Windows 7 and are still active on the network. We have active programs to replace the remaining 30 or so machines. The difficulties are always with applications, especially in an area like local government with multiple business areas. The remaining issues are:- certain elements of a business critical application don't work properly under Windows 10, some very specialist software (crematorium) and some accessibility software.

At the end of the day in that context it will be an accountability thing - hold onto Windows 7 without a good reason and something happens = lot more heat than upgrading the network to 10 and something happens. As things stand from a purely objective point of view I'm not sure sticking with 7 is any less secure than 10 right now given the multitude of moderate to serious vulnerabilities found for 10 over the last couple of months or so.

The few articles I have read do not clarify if the windows 7 updates/patches will continue to be available/archived on the microsoft site,
so if I wanted to re-install windows 7 would I have a problem ?
such an obstacle would itself make me conisider ten.

(firefox removed a lot of addons that worked with older versions . which was a pain, had to use 3rd party archives)

My PC died in the week before Christmas and this is why i upgraded to 10.
The extra nag screens, stupid amount of updates and a broken update systems that just hangs just made me give up trying to reinstall win 7.

I've not turned my pc on for s while, I thought it was patched up before the the deadline but just tonight it download and installed the jan20 security roll up.

I use win 10 at work so I'm not against it so i'll eventually get round to upgrading the two PC's at home but right now I can't be bothered.

Is it still possible to upgrade from win7 to 10 without reinstalling everything of is that a no no?

Secondly is the "free accessibility user" route still available?

Been plenty people in last week saying upgraded free using Windows 7 key
Didn't mention having to go through the accessibility loophole that I saw anyway

I've also received the January 2020 security roll up yesterday. This seems confusing to me. I'm not very techy but I thought the had ended these after 14th January?

I am currently looking at getting a new gaming PC, so I'm not bothering upgrading my current, 9-10 year old PC and just getting Windows 10 preinstalled on my new PC once I'm ready to order it from OCUK.
