Hi,
just a bit of advice on this plz...

I recently sold an item online, and sent it off as agreed via special delivery. Only its not arrived...

item not received and no card left at delivery address

its well overdue, a week now, so i logged a complaint in with RM, who are going to investigate this, and get back to me within another week lol...

I informed the buyer of this, and now they are getting ratty with me, more or less asking for cash back now

Do i pay back now?
Or do i wait till RM have got back to me, as it may still turn up, they've not classed it as lost yet
Anyone got a view on this?
never had any bother with special delivery before

I'd wait and see what RM say before refunding any cash, for all you know they might have the package and just trying to con you.

Similar experience, recently - but not with me sending parcels.

A ring is sold on eBay. Sent by Special Delivery. Recipient claims envelope was ripped, and resealed with brown tape, and there was no ring in the package.

Needless to say a claim is being filed with Royal Mail, to investigate the cirumstances.

yea theres nothing realy to do just wait for Royal Mail, to investigate
if the person that bought the item from you is not pulling your leg then am sure they wont mind waiting for a refund

Also if they paid with paypal and they put a claim in to say they never got the item just give paypal the shiping/tracking no. and the case will be closed (this happend to me many times)

i sold a watch for a relative (always have trouble when i sell something on behalf of someone else!) anyway, i sent it normal 1st class delivery  a week or so later the buyer got in touch to say the item hadnt arrived. they started a claim through the auction site and i started a claim with RM. after about 5 weeks the buyer contacts me to say the item had now arrived. I could never decide if the parcel was lost in the post or the buyer was trying it on and backed down because i didnt just refund. They seemed happy in the end. Id say no refund untill you know its definatley lost

I had a letter delivered to my house the other day, signed for. ONly thing is that I didn't actually sign for it, it was just posted through the letter box like a normal letter, so the tracker doesn't say it was ever actually delivered, but it was.

yea sometimes a posty will sign off r just drop off a "signed for" parcel. it saves you time and it saves them time at the end of the day. they shouldnt though - unless they have express prior permission from yourself to be able to do so.

special delivery is a different kttle of fish. RM will act, they are liable something like £250 plus per package. i guarantee they will do something if they find that it has not been delivered.

Thats what i told the fella, if they class it as lost, a refund will definitely be forthcoming...but you gotta give them time to try to find it first
Guess he's just being impatient (for good reason, but its not my fault, its RM's)
Not going to give him a refund till its given the all clear as lost by RM.

Technically they should inspect the package for damage/signs of opening before signing for it. Once they sign the contract is complete and carrier loses all responsibility.

if it is later than 1pm next day you are entitled to full money back on postage cost too.

30 days is how much time they have. (unless its changed from 5 years ago :D)

I sent a really old laptop via this and it arrived with a broken screen. I claimed via RM and because they were soo busy they didnt have enough time to investigate so they paid out on it. :)

My buyer wasnt too happy but they got their money back in the end. And i got money for the laptop from RM and i still have the laptop (albeit with faulty screen)
