RMA needed?

I bought a 4tb western digital hard drive. I'm trying to get a new windows 8.1 build to detect it. Now it doesnt even pick it up on the bios. Ive tried different cables/sata slots but no go. Any ideas what it can be before I rma it?

Does the disk spin up when powered on. ?

RMA it then its dead.
Even if the computer did not recognise it, it would still spin up when plugged in.

What motherboard brand and model?

oh well at least its doa and not a few years down the line.

it was a gigabyte gaming 7 motherboard and 4tb western digital black hard drive

Hmmm after googled, it seemed people have same issue with GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 and new 4TB HDDs it cant detected in UEFI BIOS.

Have you updated UEFI BIOS to latest version F6?

Try change UEFI setting to boot from Legacy BIOS and it may able to detect 4TB HDD properly.

Whether or not it's picked up in BIOS, it should still spin up when power is presented to it, if it's not powering up, it's DOA
