I'm thinking of purchasing my second ATi 5870 but I'm not sure which company to go with. I was thinking Gigabyte because I heard they have a UK based RMA service.

Has anyone had any experiences/heard stories RMA'ing with these companies?

Asus
Gigabyte
HIS
MSI
PowerColor
Sapphire
VTX
XFX

Whats your thoughts?

i did a stepup with EVGA on my 680i board (to 780i) and it took 5 months for me to get the board !

ouch! you see, things like this even it doesn't happen often, puts me off the company because I know i'm usually the unlucky one.

Where is Sapphires RMA dept located?

They are based in Hungary.

They also do not require any proof of purchase if the product is under 2 years old. As my friend who RMAd his 4870x2 had bought it from a popular auction site only to find out it was faulty and then the seller fell of the edge of the internet lol.

Which is good news for people buying second hand cards

Lol, thats good to hear. How long did it take? I guess it would b expensive to ship a card that size to Hungary!

Don't know about gigabyte, but with sapphire you don't rma the card to them, RMA/Warranty as follows

'Sapphire VGA products carry a 2 year warranty with all enquires carried out through your initial place of purchase. This can only be carried out by the original purchaser Please contact your Dealer/Reseller for Warranty / RMA service. They will require proof of purchase which includes the original invoice/documentation.'

Isn't it after 1 year you have to contact Sapphire themselves? I know it says 2 years but I think I read in some cases the etailer forwarded the customer back to the manufacturer.

i just RMAd my Sapphire 5870 which burnt out due to mobo going and had some internet browsing problems which resulted in artifacting/crashing and they have replaced it :D
How Long did it take it get a replacement? Did you deal with them directly?

When my xfx card died, they didnt wont to know and I had to send it back to overclockers.

You see, thats the kinda company I would avoid. It might be their policy to send it back to the etailer but, I rather have the option to send it to the manufacturer also.

funny thing is, i've purchased 3 giga components and all 3 were sent back. lost any and all trust i had for that company, but i'm sure peeps here will tell you vice versa.

meh, I guess theres bad stories for everyone. I just want a decent reputation company and stick with them.

A bit off topic. I recently filed a RMA with Razer, and recieved a brand new mouse back with even more problems. It cost me £10 to send it to Germany, should Razer pay for the postage this time round?

I delt with OCuk , put up a forum post and one of the admins setup an RMA , after mailing the graphics card 2 weeks ago it was a confirmed replacement 2 days ago , still waiting on the card to arrive tho. Not bad considering the time taken for post to arrive (only SP) time for procedure and then time for replacement to arrive although ofc im still waiting im guessing it will be here next week.

I guess you would have got a new card buy now if the stock wasn't so low.
