One of my two 250GB Sata2 16mb drive have been giving me trouble recently, random read errors, down on performance.
I used the WD drive tool to check it and it said it was fine, however I just tried copying files between all my drives. I used a 600MB XVID to test it.
The results are as follows

Working 250GB Sata2 -> Raptors in Raid0 = 3seconds
" " " -> Old EIDE WD 160GB = 10seconds
" " " -> Faulty 250GB Sata2 = 120seconds!

I moved onto hd tach, doing a full test and since both my 250GB sata2's are exactly the same drive you'd expect the same average read performance give or take a meg or two.
However, the working drive gave an average performance of 72mb/sec and the suspected faulty drive, well lets just say I started the test 10mins ago and it's only half way along... so there really is something not right there!

Onto WD's site and did a warrenty RMA request.. drive warrenty'd till 11/08 so all's good there. I took the advance RMA so i get the new drive first, much better than waiting forever to get a drive back!

Anyway just though i'd share it with you guys. Up till now i've never had a problem with Western Digital drives. I've always found them to be very fast, quiet and reliable and if their warrenty service turns out to be good then I see no reason to ever buy anything else.

oh my freakin god... HD tach finally finished... 4.4MB/sec average transfer rate and using 54% CPU!! It's deafinetely Fooked!

Are you sure the drive isn't just operating in PIO mode? The low transfer rate and especially the high CPU usage suggest that it could be.
