Did not think such a question would gain as much interest :D

Such is the internet.

Burnsy, do tell me how often Google/TomTom/whomever will update their maps? Or indeed, how often the average owner of a GPS will update the maps on it? If there really are as many changes as you claim, from this nonsensical reference you refuse to give up, then do you really see those companies updating them so frequently, especially if they are so minor? Hardly seems like a great financial idea. Honestly your entire argument against maps has just been unfounded and nonsensical.

DXP55, and Gimpymoo, that is the same one I have and have recommended. Fantastic map.

I don't see what the fuss is with having a slightly out of date a-z?

The point of a map is finding your bearings. You can use a 100 year old map to find your bearings. lol.

If the existence of a one way road where you didn't expect one is an absolute barrier to the completion of your journey then I can see why a slightly out of date a-z would probably be deadly.

I used to love reading maps as a child sitting in the back of my dad's car. I fancy buying one now, even though I'd probably never use it.

I always have an atlas in the car as a backup. I've a 2008 or so AA one. Not had to use it much, but handy to have. Despite supposedly millions of changes referenced above, I can't for see any issue with using any reasonably up to date atlas.

You can get the latest AA atlas in The Works or Home Bargains for 99p normally.

Always take an atlas when we go on holiday to France. It's a good backup and in some circumstances is more useful than GPS.

I've enjoyed reading Burnsy's posts in this thread though, lol.

I thought it was the done thing to have slightly out of date maps? Why pay £10-12 for the current AA map book when if you wait a year you can pick it up for a couple of quid. Take mine with me (2009 so could do with getting a newer one sometime) if going somewhere I don't know just in case.

You can get the current one for a couple of quid max in places like The Works.
