Road Cycling Gear Thread - what to buy, steal, borrow

Cheers, just ended up spending £85 on those and a bunch of gels and bars I need for the next few months training/racing :o

No worries, only sharing what others had! I'm just bedding in my first set of them as my rears really took a hammering in the grit & rain last week and were feeling pretty poor. So far so good! Not tried them in the wet yet to compare to the Koolstop salmon's they've replaced.

Best place to get a new set of brake and gear cables from?

Scrap that, ordered from Ribble.

Jagwire?

I'm now using Vavert (supergrip or gelcork). I bought it in an emergency having previously had the likes of Fizik and LizardSkins DSP, and it's great. Comfortable, grippy, doesn't get too dirty (I like white bar tape) and it's cheap.

Gents,

I need some wheels, Problem is that they need to be the following:

Cyclocross (do 29er wheels fix a CX - The wheelset will be doing trails, sherwood pines, etc)

Disc compatible (6 screw mount)

Thru-Axle compatible (this seems to be the hard part - cannot find any!)

Anyone seen anything around matching the above, I have about a £200 budget for the wheelset.

Andrew

That's going to be hard.

Theoretically as 29er wheel is the same as 700c CX wheel, but many people find it's a hell of a lot harder to get a 700c tyre on a 29er rim so there appears to be some difference.

The issue with getting a thru-axel is that it's a relatively new standard for CX and so there are very few bikes that use them.

Hmm, Thats what I'm seeing with the rarity of the wheelsets with disc and thru axle, will just wait it out until some come to market.

I only want them as a spare set with CX tyres as I'm becoming tired of swapped the tyres over to road tyres and back again all the time!

I have just been taking the girlfriends mountain bike out instead of the CX because I cannot be bothered to take the road tyres off it!

Not that I have been out much the past few weeks other than 9pm blasts, but that's another story....!
