People how can you check what the road tax cost will.be on a car that we are looking to buy?
I know tax rates for cars after 2017 were £190 but then if more than 40k list an extra £410 but this bit is confusing:

You only have to pay this rate for 5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed)

Is that from when vehicle.is registered so.68 plate until.30-09-24 pay extra 410
But 18 plate will he normal £190

Thanks

It's 5 years from the date it was taxed for the second time. For most cars, this means it's basically for 6 years from the date of first registration, but if you have a car where it was sold less than a year after being registered and therefore taxed again by its new keeper, it'll be 5 years from that date.

I'd guess it'll drop immediatley. Perhaps look at paying monthly? See if the direct debit sorts itself out automatically?

It’s done automatics when doing the direct debit. Mine had one month more of 5 year 410, think it worked out at an additional charge of £35 on top of the yearly £190.

Pretty sure the annual price is pro-rata. My E43 was a lux tax car on a 68 plate but it expired recently. The latest price was something in between what I expected.
