What I've never understood about car tax, is that if you can't afford the whole 12 months in one go and you take the six month option, they charge you more. Crazy, they reward the ones who can afford to pay upfront for 12 months, and yet punish the ones who can't.

Take me for example. Band F car, £165 a year. Due in march and I'll pay the full 12 months, yet if I'd paid 6 months, its £90 x 2 = £180.. Crazy, it just seems odd to punish if you are short of cash.

Bloody taxman.

Its so they can do you over, odds are your going to buy the next 6 months and they won't have your money in the bank for the duration earning interest so they charge you this interest with the inflated price :(

It's for the administration fees of making 2 payments over a 12 month period and not just 1.

Sorry to burst your conspiracy bubble.

Had already crossed my mind, but why not provide a payment scheme, like council taxes, instead.. Going off topic, sorry.

Can I be a snitch here, but, I pay 165 a year for my road tax, and hate tax dodgers. But some guy/bird on my road I pass everyday has no tax on his/her car, well he/she does but it expired in 2004!?! and is park halfway on the curb and half on the road, with the disc crumpled to not make it so obvious!!

Should I report them to the DVLA, and if so who do I contact?

Ring the DVLA, he might have declared the car SORN. If DVLA catch him, it'll cost the bugger. :D
