Road to Rotary: Japan to France in an RX7

That is awful.

My first steps would be to talk to the port directly and then find out if it was a contractor or a port employee that caused the damage.

wow, I'm so sorry, thats horrible to see - as you say they'll try and wiggle out of it, but fight this as hard as you can. In the end it all adds to the story, but for now I can only imagine the pain and rage your feeling

Aww man just saw this at the top and got excited.. That totally sucks. I'd speak to the port authority and see if it can go through their insurance. Fix it because it's yours and it's amazing, not because it would or wouldn't be worth 40k plus on sale in Europe.

Yea, it was one of their employees. I know his name. I know his history of this as well. I have been messaged by a number of people from their work whatsapp.

Currently talking to them. I am also talking to a lawyer on Monday. I would happily take it as a total loss and buy it back, but not just have them repair it / pay for it to be repaired and give it to me. That makes me worse off. I'm not sticking for that. I had a mint car, I will get a mint, undamaged car. And rebuild this one if I can buy it back.

That's a good bit of news then, in relation to being their own employee and having the history.

Not good if that kind of news was to get out about how their own staff treat customers goods and the like...

Yeah there's no explaining that away as "Oh it just accidently drove sideways into a thing" is there?
I had one of their mates (I can assume) message me on tiktok telling me that it didn't slide into a container, it did a random 180 because it was slippery and on semi slick tyres and it wasn't at speed...
Then I received the above pictures this morning. You can see it hit a container sideways. You can see it's on road tyres (I knew this, it's my car) and you can see from the damage, it was a hard hit... on top of that you can see the angle of the front wheel means that person was steering into that, most likely trying to flick it round and overcooked it.

Gutted for you. It's sadly incredibly common when importing cars as absolutely nobody in the whole chain gives a **** about your car. I've seen a lot of cases where they've been bumped or scraped by accident and in my own case had a transport driver damage the underneath of a Rolls Royce but I've never seen anything as bad as that.

They should be insured and I'd like to think they will want to make this right but who knows. Are you dealing with their insurance or did you have your own transit insurance policy in place?

Omg, hope the person who was drifting it has been sacked.

Think I'd be taking it further than the insurance company aswell, I'd be suing them going for losses and everything.

What an absolute bummer.

And the port are <insert expletive>

Really feeling for you.

Absolutely gutted for you.

A close friend had a similar experience when shipping their heavily modified vehicle abroad for development work (joyride and crash at the port). It's disgusting behaviour and should not happen.

commiserations - getting an appropriate european valuation by a body at the port ? sounds tough, or you had had that pre-departure , or you'll wait till it's in France.

Man you must be gutted.

Absolutely you would want paid out in full, for full European value for a minted car. Then buy back and repair to high standard. I'd then be tempted to take the fixed car on the journey, as that's going to be some rough miles, rather than possibly trash a mint car. And keep the mint one fresh, ha ha. But then the mint car doesn't get the history I guess.

An extra bump in the road I guess. But absolutely fight that all the way. Looks like someone is still practicing to beat DK...

Yea lol this would be a good shout haha

I have a lawyer now, just working with them to try and get everything needed to put in a huge claim for all my losses and the fact I cannot even replace it, or even attempt to, without this closed, because my money is all tied up in this. So I physically won't be able to do the trip when I said I would. Which puts it off a whole frigging year.
They're probably not prepared for the claim I'm sending their way.

Helps that now well over half a million people have seen this on tiktok and I know they have, too. They told Alex at Top Rank to remove his videos... They asked me to stop posting about it and then tried to recall the email lol

I was going to say, as big a bummer as it is, surely you'll get more content out of it (people love repair videos don't they?) and be better off over all? Guess you won't get the time back though.
