Road Tripping in the USA!

Haha, you are staying at the Ramada in Bishop too? Don't expect it to be great but as I guess you have found there isn't a lot of choice there.

Fairly sure it was the Best Western in Modesto I stayed too, it was a two floor motel type place.

Django, would be a shame to miss out on yosemite as you are so near by.
Also staying Remada in bishop 19th of august, then 3 days camping yosemite valley.

Lol, I looked back and saw you were at the Ramada. Better take my black light and scan the hotel room....;)

Any hotel ideas for the stops I'm missing? Laguna Beach and Santa B?

Less than a week until I fly now!

Think I've got everything sorted and just booking up a few bits and pieces (like a Vegas show).

None of those. Go via Pahrump, into Death Valley, stop off at Dante's View, Badwater Basin, then go out via Furnace Creak which should have you picking up the lower of the three routes you have there.

I'm picking up my SUV today, had to chase us car hire people as they didn't send my collection voucher but all sorted now. Driving to Boston via Newport and battleship cove!

Cool, thanks. I thought the lower route would be best for scenery. Will take the Pahrump route too.

Blimey, all day to do that? That's really not much at all. it shouldnt take a day to do that unless you have a specific activity in mind.

I know, the day before is a long day of driving so we'll probably relax in the morning and take things very easy (go for a nice walk round the lake or something).

The issue was we have 2 nights in Yosemite and didn't want to stay in Curry Village for both.

Sounds like a bit of a shame that your padding is there, I think I'd have padded the trip out somewhere else - extra nights in a posh hotel in Vegas whilst its cheap perhaps.

We've already got enough time elsewhere I think (4 nights in Vegas, 4 in San Diego, 3 in LA, 4 doing the PCH and 3 in SF).

Maybe we'll end up going down into Yosemite and just coming back for the hotel.

Originally our night in Death Valley was going to be Bishop or similar but I decided I'd rather do the extra 45 minute drive to Mammoth Lakes for a better hotel at a cheaper price, that means the next day is cut down by that amount of time.

Any comments on the Yosemite to SF? I've taken onboard the idea of coming in via the GGB but am unsure of the best route from Yosemite to the GGB (pretty much just let Google map out the quickest)?

Hmmm, not sure I'd have done that as you'll be wanting to maximise time in Death Valley not on the highway the other side of Death Valley but I guess 45 minutes isn't too bad. Remember, even Bishop isn't in Death Valley, its several hours out of it.

I just let Google take me the quickest route to the top of the GGB - Sausalito is a nice little place for a spot of lunch.

Santa Barbara is the only place having trouble making up our mind what hotel to stay in. Any suggestions?

Its a little more on the expensive side - but if you want to treat yourself go for the Bacara. Definitely one of the best hotels on the West Coast - worth the expense for sure. You'll get a great deal a few days before calling them direct - We always try and stay there when we can when in SB. We'll actually be there on Saturday, fas we're up for the Santa Barbara Polo event.
