Road Tripping in the USA!

That's the plan. I have family in Canada so it's addressing the "when are you coming to see us" request we get each year. I usually respond with the "planes fly both ways" but they did that a couple of years back so need to shut them up :)

I'm not certain but I suspect it's because you're selecting for four days + two hours e.g. try 18/06/16 @15:00 to 22/06/16 @15:00 rather than 22/06/16 @17:00. I don't think it can or will charge you for portions of a day, the system is charging you for the five days that you've chosen. For what it is worth when I tried just now and selected only four days I also got quotes of £189.XX - the variation seems to be a few pence depending on the time of day but that's all.

Are you using Alamo.com?

Use .co.UK and make sure its in blocks of 24 hours.

Perfect, getting quotes of 189 now, thank you.

Yes was previously using .co.uk, but had the extra 2 hours slot in there, taken that away and quotes are good now :)

Yes, it says 'Mustang or similar'. The 'or similar' is a Camaro so hardly the end of the world but honestly I'd be absolutely staggered if LAX had no Mustangs to give you. Every time I've been there you can't move for them - they are the ultimate pile em high rent em cheap convertible. There is no point the rental firms buying anything less than a Mustang really. The Alamo/National facility at LAX is enormous - the stock turnover is huge so there are cars being returned constantly.

What are the numbers of Camaro's like? I'll be booking as per your advice, and would much rather have the Camaro than the Mustang.

If you go Mustang or similar and end up with a Camaro, you've probably won not lost. :)

Agreed!

It's not a class I ever rent I just notice them around when I pick up.

But its such a high turnover location that if they didn't have any you might be able to hang around for a bit for one to come back.

'Or Similar' used to be a bit higher risk as they had a few Chrysler 200's in the fleet which were awful cars but they have been out of production for a few years now.

Thanks

Would it be possible to switch at another Alamo location as well? Say Las Vegas or San Fransisco to swap. Or do you need a viable reason to be changing mid hire?

Weirdly I can't seem to get alamo.co.uk to offer a Mustang or similar/Convertible when I go through to select a car. Getting a good price on Virgin Holidays for the same car though which appears to use Alamo?

Yes they do and its the same fully inclusive offer. A good way of getting a particular class if it isn't available direct, I used them last year.

Just be aware officially its only for people who have a copy of the guide...

Yeah I noticed the alert when you go through the link.

Still buying a £10 copy from WHSmiths is still a good saving over uscarhire.com etc.

Just my thoughts,

Route looks nice, but no dedicated time in Yosemite? I'm not a Vegas fan, so I'd loose a night there and make time (personal preference)

What time is your flight Monday? I would rather spend another night in SB then head back to LA. Just man-up and leave early? Sleep on the plane! :)

Either way, looks nice, enjoy!

Good point on Yosemite, we do have a few things for Vegas like the grand canyon tour etc. and a few shows that we both want to go to. Think I based this route on the majority of others spending 4 nights in Vegas.

Flight isn't til afternoon on the Monday. We chose to stay in LA on the Sunday night, but not actually get to LA til late Sunday, and spend most of it in SB and down the north west of LA beaches etc. This was mainly down to how expensive hotels were around SB.

That itinerary is fine for Yosemite. Leave Mammoth Lakes in the morning and you get all day driving through Yosemite and into Modesto for the evening. If you are not into hiking etc frankly it's sufficient to get a taste of what Yosemite is all about.

It is exactly the amount of time we allocated and it was more than sufficient.

Are there any specific view points along Yosemite to get out, and take some photos etc?

1 day will probably be enough to be honest, it's so large 2 days isn't really enough to cover it all either.

Is it ok to be booking all the hotels tonight? I know some people have booked hotels whilst on the trip. What's the pro/cons of both methods?
