Roads where drivers either always break the speed limit or never go near it...

It might just because I live in an area where frontal lobotomies are still commonplace but it seems like there's roads where people will either spend most of the time either 20MPH under the limit or 20MPH over it.

For example this piece of road, about 2 miles of 3 lane NSL into a 50MPH limit (with a camera) yet coming off the roundabout onto this bit of road I'm always stuck behind someone doing 40MPH in the outside lane when it's perfectly safe to do 70, and this happens every time I use this bit of road. I don't have a particularly quick car yet I'm always overtaking people dawdling along...

In contrast a busy two lane residential road with loads of minor roads joining from both sides and crossings with a 30MPH limit, yet even if I'm doing an indicated 40 (I know, sue me) I have people sitting on my bumper and undertaking me at a fair pace.

What's the mentality behind this, other than people are just bloody stupid?

Has anyone else noticed this?

I see this a lot where i live, mostly country roads and I think people that are scared of going over a certain speed, be it 40 or 50 mph...
They will pootle along in a 60 zone at 40mph... but once they get to a 30 zone they dont slow down... i really think they are not worried about speeding, just worried about certain speeds altogether...
Should not be driving if they cant handle the speed limits!

Winds me up so much. They seem to go everywhere at an average of 40 which is dangerous and inconsiderate for everyone around.

People are dumb.

Yeah it happens here as well. It is most annoying because my car doesn't have enough poke to get past without a fairly big gap the other way, so more often than not I'm stuck behind them for miles. :(

There is a fantastic bit of road near here which has a 60MPH limit and you can do 60 perfectly safely, more some of the time, and there is a great set of bends you can go through at 30 perfectly comfortably or 40 - 45 if you're having a bit of fun, but some people sit there going 30 down the entire road, as if they think their tyres are made out of ice, and corners are scary!

Then you get people who dawdle in the outside lane of a 70MPH dual carriageway at 45 - 50MPH because they want to turn right about 2 miles down the road, even when there are only two or three cars around and there would be no issue moving over nearer the turning!

This winds me up excessively!!

People who buy cars with large engines merc/BMW etc then drive 10-20 mph below the limit is quite common here. The *****.

I saw a lady who must have been late 70's driving a 2014 Golf 2.0 TSI at about 28MPH in a 50 the other week, I did overtake her.

Lovely car, lovely colour. Made me a little sad to know that the car isn't getting the drive it deserves.

Got stuck behind a Hyundai this morning, sporty looking thing begining with a V. 40 in a 60 and still breaking round corners that can easily be taken at 55+.

There's not many places to overtake either. That was an infuriating 20-30minutes, and I was already waking up angry from the football!

Lol, I assumed he meant it was one of those people who sees a slight kink in the road and brakes. :p

Erm, you seriously think 55+ round a corner is safe?

Unless this is some long sweeping gentle curve, rather than a corner, you're clearly having a laugh.

Well I guess if you're considering a corner to be a right angle then no, maybe a curve is more accurate. A26 is the road, most of the bends you really don't need to slow down for. There are a few, but not as many as that driver made out :D.

I remember many years ago I was helping my mother move her bees in her VW Polo, so we were travelling very slowly and carefully. Cue toots from drivers behind. Until I got out fully kitted up in a bee suit. :D

Its the 40mph everywhere affliction.

I get it so much on way home from work it winds me up a lot. My journey consists of A/B roads with some derestricted , 50mph bits and a few villages where it is 30mph. Literally most people will just sit doing 40-45mph through ALL of it. I get people right up my backside going through the villages at 30mph yet when you get to the derestricted bits they just disappear of into the distance behind you. Then they catch you up through the next village as they have just been flying through all the 30mph zones at 40+. There is one super wide lovely bit of derestricted road where you can very safely go the NSL, 60mph yet most just pootle along it at 45mph or so ( the same speed they do through all the built up villages with schools etc.)

It infuriates me.
