Martin Johnson's departure has been linked to Rob Andrew. How much of this is to do with Rob Andrew? It seems there is always bad news linked to him and calls for him to go but he is still there. England have been pretty woeful throughout his tenure since 2006 except the 6 nations win. Is he as bad as everyone makes out?

I thought he came across very badly in the press conference, completely distancing himself from Martin Johnson. He is responsible for elite rugby, and a major aspect of that is the framework around how the england team is run (not just managed on the pitch), he should feel responsible in part for the lack of success since he took over.

Also, MJ is the third manager i believe since Rob Andrews came in, so i would suggest he's not picking the right man at all!

Forget MJ and RA, they don't matter. Why is it never down to how good the players are?

Because the players regularly underperform when playing for England and don't seem to show their club form.

It's a running joke that players go into the England setup in form and full of confidence and then come out in poor form with no confidence.

I'm not saying the players are completely blameless, but the England setup hasn't got the best out of our players for a long time. Johnson was a poor appointment, how you can appoint someone as national coach who has no experience at all? The cliche "Great players don't make great coaches" springs to mind.

He needs to go, i think Martin Johnson has realised that he was 1. not qualified for the job and 2. was going to get fired if he didnt anyways.

To have such a bad world cup and to make it worse loose to the French is not nice :( According to Sky Sports News they reckon they might try luring the old new zealand coach out of retirement :)

Well he appointed a man with zero coaching experience to the most demanding job in English rugby so he must take some responsibility.

I'm pretty sure Andrew didn't appoint Johnson...he actually wanted Ashton to stay on. Martyn Thomas was the guy who actually recruited Johnson I believe.

England had a terrible half, against France, and a little bad luck. In the second half they were the better side, it was just too late. If Trinh-Duc nails the penalty against New Zealand in the final, France win the World Cup. And it would have been considered by all a deserved victory. The margins are incredibly fine in top class rugby. Rob Andrew Appointed a man with zero coaching experience and at the World Cup Finals, He's got them in the ballpark, so to speak. Both men are Legends, and deserve better support than they get from the English press and the public at large.
