He has been given the ultimatum from the RFU, resign or be sacked. He will announce it later today.

Now that that is over, who for the big job?
 
Aye, he would be my choice. The players and the old farts will have total respect for him.
Other choices:

Richard Hill (the little un not the big un), Dean Richards or ME! :D
 
Warren Gatland - did wonders for Irish rugby. Only problem is that he is being groomed for the Kiwi's in about 2 -3 years time. Big money offer might get him ofc...:)

Hilly's very happy right where he is thank you. At the top of the Premiership. :D

It depends if the RFU still seriously think they have a shout at retaining the World Cup. They don't have time to build a squad playing expansive champagne rugby so my choice would be Dean Ryan. He'll kick any underachievers so hard they'll be watching from the roof of the new South stand.
They'll never prise him away from Glaws though.

Hill and Ryan are two great coaches, as proven by their teams respective positions.

The Glorious Glaws had to be toppled sometime and I am glad it was Briz rather than anyone else. Well played Friday. :)
 
There are loads of coaches in the England set up, what they need is a manager and a leader, someone that can inspire each player to give their absolute all every time they pull on an England shirt. This is England, pride is not optional.
 
Can only be a good thing, and long long overdue. Still a total mess though. The RFU are apparently giving him the same severance package for resigning as they would if they sacked him, just to stop them having to sack him.

I'm not sure how easy finding a head coach will be, purely on the basis that the likes of Gatland or Mallet I would think would want to assemble there own back room staff, but that would be difficult to do with the 3 new coaches in the job only a few months.

I think that is the role Johnson could certainly fulfill. Bringing him in just to do team talks would do wonders for england imo.

Doesn't need it. The way the RFU is set up, the sole role of the Head Coach is motivation and getting the team on winning ways. Robinson is deluded (and should have gone 6 months ago) saying that things are getting better and citing that England will do well in the WC. That is a given as they should make the Quarters without meeting anyone half decent.

MJ gets by vote.

Back on topic. I know Johnson is the popular choice but I'm not convinced he is a good appointment. He's unproven as a manager or head coach and I'm damn sure he'd be unhappy about holding some kind of figurehead position while all the real work happens in the background. Alternatively you could shrug and admit that he couldn't make things worse.

I'd want the next head coach to be English (or naturalised with extensive experience of the game in England) and be unafraid to drop big names that have failed to deliver.
I have my CV ready if they advertise :D
 
I can't believe that he is still in a job this evening, or maybe he isn't and they haven't told us yet?

I predict an anouncement tommorrow.
 
RFU said there would be no statement today, regardless of what is to be announced.

MJ would be an interesting manager, providing he has good coaching staff. Of which, he has Ashton who is good already.

I think that either way, England need to be resigned that there is a period of rebuilding ahead, so they are highly unlikely to be competitive for this year's 6N or more importantly the world cup. It is disappointing, but the fact that the team is already in this position is something that needs to be acknowledged and dealt with - IMO not by recalling players with no real future - i.e. Lawrence et al
