Robots - When / Where ?

Hi all,

Well after being quite bored today ive looked at youtube quite a bit for no reason i typed in Robotics / Robot. & that got me thinking i found these two links.

<Sony dancing robots

How long is it going to take before they start to work in business office or where ever we need them, I know we have robots already to lift, construct. I mean like the Honda robot to watch that is is like wow! As this is now and it can achieve quite a lot already.. by programming ofc. When do you think I-Robot will be here?

I'd say they're still a long way off. Although we're pretty much there in terms of capability, the cost for a decent machine would be too high to justify I guess. Also haven't sony stopped developement of robotics now? I believe they're still churning out the current gen. of Aibo though.

i would say 100years. Sure things have come a long way, but people were saying we would having flying cars etc by the year 2000 =/

honda are now leading the way in robotics with their recent one (asimo?).

i can see that inside 20years we will have at least at military level, some kind of automated/robotic independant sentry of some kind.

purely for cost i couldnt see it going any other way but that said... look how far we've come in the last 20 years.... :eek:

That was a very bad prediction, we shouldent let that sour or vision of life in the future.

asimo's fairly old now iirc, I don't know if they're just using the same name for newer models though...

Yea they are.

We are a way off being completly replaced by robots imo. The technology for creating a dextrous and capable robot for everyday tasks is already here but the AI is lacking by far.

I'll be impressed when they make a robot that can walk without bent legs ;p
