It's horrible but yes, you did. It is absolutely crushing and the pain never goes but you did to the right thing and I bet you gave him a great life.

It is but you can worry about that another day.

Stop second guessing yourself. Hard decisions are hard but if on balance it's the right thing to do then you have to get on with that, however much it pains you. Focus on the time you had and be thankful you shared those times.

The guilt is a very odd part of it. I would imagine like myself you did everything that you could do and gave him the very best life he could have had but there is still this irrational guilt.

I think this is completely normal and from what you said it sounds like you definitely did the right thing. There is always that nagging doubt though that just won't go away. It only hurts so much because he was so loved and loved you in return.
 
Never easy losing a beloved pet. As a responsible pet owner, you did the right thing. You have my condolences at this difficult time.
