I've noticed there are no rock climbing threads! I love rock climbing. Rain, sun, sleet! It's a brilliant sport to keep fit and gain stronger arms. plus you get lot's of fresh air! :D

i travel all over scotland, not been to england yet but i will one day :) just a bit far for a day's climb.

any rock climbers here?

I used to do a fair bit of rock climbing but it was indoors only at the time and I haven't been for a good year or two now as there doesn't seem to be a wall conveniently located near where I live/work. It was certainly great fun though and very satisfying feeling the progression as you could climb up a route that seemed impossible a few weeks before.

6C/7A was the hardest I managed to climb indoors but 6A/B was the usual sort of level i.e. challenging enough but still fun to do several routes in a session. I'd been doing it for a year/18 months when I stopped.

I keep trying to start a climbing thread.
I just led my first outside climb on Sunday. It was a 4 pitch VS and led it all! Very pleased as you can imagine, did loose a brand new nut and brand new quickdraw though!

It's difficult to tell from the pictures exactly what it's like but most good centres will have routes that get changed around every few months to keep it interesting. I think going along for a taster session and then seeing how much you enjoy it is a good plan though, you don't really want to commit too early as you may not enjoy it - I don't know many people who've tried it and haven't enjoyed themselves but some don't find it compelling enough to keep going.

I climb 2-3 times a week indoors, since around September, 6B at hardest but do 6a/6a+ normally :)

Great sport, lost 10kg since I started (and put on a lot of muscle too!).

To anyone who wants to start, join a club! So much more fun with people :)

yeah definitly, i've done many leads all over scotland. i'm currently planning to go to thailand. there is a place there which is a rock climbers heaven :) the hardest i've climbed is a E2 but i can do E1 and HVS quite easily.

About fire munki losing a new nut and new quick draw, that sucks! all tho the sport is fun it's also quite expensive. anyone climbed abroad before?

I'm enjoy climbing, don't get a chance to do much though. I am very much a fair weather climber :D. I love sport climbing, not such a fan of trad, I worry too much about placing my protection poorly. That said I spent two weeks on pabay climbing a few years ago climbing, awesome holiday. This year I am getting back in to it!

Talking about putting your placements in the wrong place. a mate and myself where out climbing in kingussie, to get there you have to walk for a good 15 minutes up hill to get to the climbs. my mate was leading and he slipped. he fell 15ft all his nuts popped out, and luckly he had just missed a massive rock. i had to carry the gear and hold him up back to the car then rushed to the hospital. gave us both a scare but we're back into the swing of it now.

every sport has it's risks but that's what makes it so appealing.

Went to the Barn again last night, working hard on the far overhang, led 6 quickdraws up and did the top roped end on a whle bunch of 6a and 6a+.
All in all a good nights fun.

Done a fair bit of bouldering. Had to take a break whilst healing broken bones but went climbing again (indoors) for the first time in 4 months last Friday. I was upto v6 but all the way back to v1-2 at the moment.

Its always hard to get back in after a lay off in anything. I missed 3 weeks over xmas and my hand stregth just disappeared. I knew I could do it but just couldn't hang on.
Trying in vain now to hold back my desire to buy some evolve optimus primes.
