Got it on PS+ I think, not something I would usually go for but it was great fun, I'll probably get on the XB1 as well, it will get played more then.

It's the only reason I turn on my PS4 at the minute(will be playing Bloodbourne, Until Dawn again, at some point). TV only has 2 HDMI sockets and I like my Wii U! So to save battering my sockets(every splitter I've tried have broken), it's a buy from me.

Can't wait.

That was long....

EDIT: Thanks for the heads up!

It is, kinda. If you are new to it, that's what you do, like when children first learn to play football and they all chase it down at the same time. However, as you learn the game and you get better. You realise that it is a team game. To me, it is as close to real life football on a computer than actually playing Fifa or PES. This is because you are controlling just 1 car and there is a skill to hitting the ball at a certain angle which affects its trajectory, how hard you hit it for its speed and power, and also using the stadium for angles like snooker. The car becomes your right foot. You are always trying to get speed up so you can get a clean hit (like in real life you need to pull your leg back in order to hit it hard). There is skill to the timing of the hit and there is also a real skill to defending and block. There is as much satisfaction in making a critical save as scoring a goal.

There are tricks to double click for jumping higher or boost forward by flipping the car. There is the skill of "flying" and hitting balls high in the air for aerial shots, however these can be done by anyone on day 1. The best games are when you work as a team, people who knows what they are doing, like if one person is going after the ball in the corner, the other players should be near the centre anticipating a cross and not chase after the same ball. Or when the ball is going your area, everyone should really sprint back ASAP and defend but again, defend in a smart way like with speed to cut up the ball and not standing stationary on the goal line because when you are stationary, your movement is very limited. And just like football, the game can easily come down to luck. Sometimes the ball just will not go in, hitting the edges all the time or sometimes it deflect off people and go in. And just like football, you can be 3-0 up one minute and 30 seconds later you can be 3-3 because they can score 2 goals from kick off (The kick off is a bit like a break in snooker).

Rocket League looks simple but it has so much depth, and the better players you play with, the better the game gets. That is the beauty of it, it's in its simplicity.

I was watching this on Twitch last night. I don't get it. People just driving cars around bashing into a big ball? Is that it?

Pretty much. Two teams (either 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4), 5 minutes to score the most goals, if it's tied it goes into overtime. Controls are simple to learn but damn hard to master. You obviously have accelerate, brake, turn, powerslide. But then you have jump, you can 'double jump' (although I think it's called dodge) in another direction if you press jump again within 1.5 seconds of the first jump, and you can boost which allows you to pretty much fly across the arena to hit aerial shots if you want to. Combine all of that you have an incredibly fun and addictive multiplayer game.
