Changing my alloys on my car to a style I like better.

2 of them need new tyres so looking to buy new ones and the prices have shot up. Tyres that I paid £130/ea for just a few months ago are now £170-£180 & even budget options with decent specs are ~£100 when they were ~£70.

Anyone else notice this?

Bought 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S just under a year ago at what I thought was a good price - the same set from the same supplier today is actually £10 less.

When looking for tyres recently many suppliers have some form of deals on/off throughout the year along with the prices changing regularly. If you are lucky enough to need them when a good one is on they can be cheaper than what I paid 3 years ago but shortly before Christmas they would have been £200 more for a full set than buying today.

I generally find buying them from Camskill and getting local tyre fitter to fit them is the cheapest, added bonus they always balance the wheels perfectly and don't mark the alloys.

This is what I found. I needed a set of four before Christmas and everywhere was massively more expensive than when I previously bought them. Then Tyres On The Drive had a December offer on and they worked out marginally cheaper.

I've got a set of 16s for my Mini, so going a size smaller for handling, ride and tyre cost benefits over 17s. To my surprise the price of tyres is very expensive, I remember buying good brands for about £80 a corner a few years ago now admittedly, but now they are at £110-£120. Which is what I've paid for 18s!

I guess as cars have got bigger the demand for smaller tyre sizes has deminished so no longer the supply to cost benefit?

Yes looks more how popular the size is compared to the size of them. There was a deal going last month for 4 225/40 R18 Goodyear F1 AS6s fitted for £300 ish as that’s the most common 18” size on cars.

Seems to vary on tyre spec, not necessarily how common a size is, etc. some have gone up crazy amounts even 2-3x what they were 2-3 years ago, others hardly changed.
