Does seem odd that in a world of reboots, remakes, spin offs and uncalled for sequels that nobody has touched it in years.

The last thing I remember was the underrated Dredd back in 2012 with Karl Urban.

I heard rumours they were looking at making a TV series with him reprising the role but it didn't go anywhere unfortunately.

Last I heard was that as of a few months ago pretty much everyone involved was up for it, but IIRC most of them are currently quite busy with other projects and they would need to get the funding.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Amazon do it as Urban is one of the main characters in one of their biggest TV shows, and apparently Dredd has done very well indeed on streaming.

I absolutely loved his Dredd, it was pretty much spot on, but IIRC it wasn't really marketed all that well and outside the UK the brand recognition wasn't really there so it needed more of a push in the US. I suspect the fact it was an R rating (from memory) hurt it a lot at the time in the States as there was a big push against R rated films as they weren't seen as being as potentially profitable, IIRC there were a bunch of films that were very deliberately toned down from the source material to avoid that and it pretty much took Deadpool to remind the studios/chains that there was actually quite a big market for well made R rated action/sci-fi films.

Wonder if this will lead to more being done?

Would like to see Flesh and ABC Warriors.

I enjoyed both Judge Dredd and Dredd movies. Dredd had the better story, but Judge Dredd had the look from the comic strip. (he should never have removed his helmet though)

Dredd underperformed at the box office, basically nobody went to see it, but it was a brilliant adaptation IMO.

It's one of the few movies that came out in that era that actually has a decent 3D sequence as well.

I would love them to make a TV series in the same style, with Karl Urban. Maybe after the final season of 'The Boys' he will be more available?

The cinema release was 3D only with maybe 4-5 exceptions nationwide. 3D stuff gives me a headache so I skipped it at the cinema. As did many others. As said though it’s done well on Streaming and PPV.

It was a fairly stupid decision, but IIRC the cinemas made an extra few pounds per ticket on 3d at the time.

It was probably the best use of 3d that I saw in any film but as you say anyone who has issues with 3d would be put off any film that was only being shown in 3d.

That's exactly why I skipped it on the big screen, I don't get on with 3D cinema for a few reasons. Even that aside, it released as "Dredd 3D" and at a time where an absolute slough of 3D style movies that ranged from gimmicky to dire were being spewed out left and right, even if the 3D was well done and there was a 2D release alongside it I feel many viewed it negatively for the title alone.

I watched it via streaming at a later date and absolutely loved it, seemingly as you and others have mentioned so did a lot of other people that were put off by the cinema release.

Yeah loved the film it was great. The 3D when watched at home was mind blowing in some sequences probably the best use of 3D I've seen. I dont think it was marketed right. There is some right rubbish that has really good hype and marketing campaigns then a film like this is not pushed in the right direction.

Yeah it was amazing. It was down to poor marketing tbh. Most fans loved it and wished they made more.

The good news is allegedly they are. Karl Urban agreed to come back in Amazon TV series if it hasn't already been mentioned.
