roku?

You can pick up the Amazon Fire TV 4K refurbed for £69.99 - from the usual place.

Little cheaper than Roku 3 if you're already happy with Firestick. Just demote it to a bedroom or something.

Roku has all the UK catchup channels, netflix, amazon prime and plex. Not sure what else it has as that's all I use on it.

Correction: my TV is 1080i, but I gather 720p is slightly better and the Roku can be set to that.

I love our Roku 3, probably one of the best purchases I've made.

But aren't there problems with wifi. It appears they stupidly put the remote control on the same channel as the streaming (?) Or has this been fixed?

No NowTV on Firestick which is why I went Roku. Amazon Prime, Netflix and NowTV available. And BBC, ITV, 4OD, Demand5. And Plex. Youtube. They're the only 9 I have installed.

I have it hardwired.

I could hardwire it but realistically only to a Netgear dual-band wireless extender which would reduce my 60M broadband somewhat, even on 5GHz. Don't know if that would matter too much.

This thread seems to have answered most of what I wanted to know.

Thanks to all who responded.

I have the roku 2. One wired and one wireless. One controlled via WiFi using a harmony and one controlled by ir using a different harmony so unfortunately cannot comment on the roku 3 controller.

Don't need a 4K TV.

?? Don't have a Firestick ...

Sorry, was replying to OP. Didn't noticed you'd necroed a thread from last year... have you replied to the wrong thread to start this up again?

On a side note the FireTv 4K is just called that because the first version wasn't 4K. It's just the 2nd version so basically generally faster and well priced. I prefer them over my Rokus and NowTV I had.

Just learned tvplayer also available on Roku and includes for £5.99 p/m eurosport, had hopes for the upcoming tour de france, however
Alibi, Eden, Gold, Good Food, W, Eurosport 1 and 2 are NOT available during free trials. Please contact TVPlayer support if you would like to end your trial early to access these channels.
[Eurosport player direct - it seems you must sign up for a year £4.99 p/m , although they had some special cycle tour deals.]

I never tried tvplayer on other platform eg win10, but I guess channel quality is the same as usual live itv/c4/bbc apps, so not 1080i , but 720 or 576 ??

should kill the ebay nowtv pass market for a couple of months -

per hotuk, if you are in final month of a pass, or even paying monthly, if you cancel now AND fill out the survey,
they give you two months at £1.39 p/m for entertainment to stay (just got that)
or apparently movies for £2p/m (but, personally, even at £2 not sure I could find anything worth watching)

Fine so far, but the Web lacks a list of what can be viewed here in Europe. I'd prefer this device as I want to keep Google out
of my life as far as possible, so their streamer is out.

My TV is HD, Internet connectable via HDMI/Ethernet but isn't a smart TV.

So far I have been unable to find anything which explains how Roku works.

Have we the UK catchup channels? French TV, (BFM etc), German TV ?
why resurrect such an old thread?

re-using threads is the green approach ... it was only Oct 2016

[ It is ironic that many of the new threads could incestuously be answered by searching OC forums, often forget to look myself :)
there is a definite groundhog day element / "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" ]

it wasn't re-use though. it was answering the original post. Which has happened a lot recently.

why bump old threads just to respond to the original post, if asking new questions or similar that's different.
