Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 lag when moving mouse?

I've got quite a bad problem when trying to play RCT3 on Steam. I get 100FPS constantly while playing, but as soon as I move my mouse my game freezes and the game freezes until I let go of the mouse. This happens in game as well as the main menu.

I had.. er.. "acquired" the game before, a version which some may call "dodgy" and whilst playing it then the problem did not persist. However, I then went ahead and bought it on Steam as I did enjoy the game a lot, but now I practically can't even play the game!

I have a near-high end system, i5 3570k, 7850 2GB, 8GB RAM, SSD and the rest of it (also running Windows 7 64-bit).

The "version" of the game I had before works better than the purchased copy, what is going on! :p
What can I do???:confused:

I've tried verifying as well as reinstalling the game.
If you look through the game's forum on Steam, some people have the same problem but there's no solution there either.
 
This is a long shot, but I've noticed some odd behavior with Steam games, when Steam is not run with Administrator rights.

Not just that you have Admin rights, but that you actually run the Steam EXE with elevated rights. Try this. Close Steam completely. Right click and run Steam as Administrator

I know it sounds crazy, but please try it.

another thing is do you by any chance have Display Pointer Trails enabled for your mouse in Windows.

RCT3 is notoriously bad on windows 7, just getting it running is an achievement in itself. The first thing to check is the park file size. if it is getting anywhere close to 14MB then you will have problems. There is a program out there somewhere that can 'clean up' the save file and make it a bit smaller which might help you a bit but it will only delay the inevitable

if it makes you feel any better, the youtuber nerdcubed has a silly powerful PC (3x GTX680 watercooled, 64GB RAM, i7 something or other overclocked quite a bit, etc) and he was getting much worse than 10FPS in his later videos of RCT3 when the park was getting fuller
 
Ok, I tried running Steam as Administrator - still the same thing.
Pointer trails are disabled anyway and I checked - still the same thing.

Reaper, I haven't even started a game yet because even the menu freezes and it's impossible to play so I haven't even bothered to.

This is just getting stupid :(
 
I so want a new RCT. I want it more than anything in the world. It would (should), be utterly awesome on todays hardware.

Sadly seeing as Atari have gone **** up, I doubt we will ever see it. And that my friends, is one of the biggest gaming travesty's ever :( If only another company could pick up the baton and run with it (please, please, please, please, please!!!!!!!)
